Abstract: Above Elbow Prosthesis is one of the most commonly
amputated or missing limbs. The research is done for modelling
techniques of upper limb prosthesis and design of high torque, light
weight and compact in size elbow actuator. The purposed actuator
consists of a DC motor, planetary gear set and a harmonic drive. The
calculations show that the actuator is good enough to be used in real
life powered prosthetic upper limb or rehabilitation exoskeleton.
Abstract: Human middle-ear is the key component of the
auditory system. Its function is to transfer the sound waves through
the ear canal to provide sufficient stimulus to the fluids of the inner
ear. Degradation of the ossicles that transmit these sound waves from
the eardrum to the inner ear leads to hearing loss. This problem can
be overcome by replacing one or more of these ossicles by middleear
prosthesis. Designing such prosthesis requires a comprehensive
knowledge of the biomechanics of the middle-ear. There are many
finite element modeling approaches developed to understand the
biomechanics of the middle ear. The available models in the
literature, involve high computation time. In this paper, we propose a
simplified model which provides a reasonably accurate result with
much less computational time. Simulation results indicate a
maximum sound pressure gain of 10 dB at 5500 Hz.
Abstract: The study of human hand morphology reveals that developing an artificial hand with the capabilities of human hand is an extremely challenging task. This paper presents the development of a robotic prosthetic hand focusing on the improvement of a tendon driven mechanism towards a biomimetic prosthetic hand. The design of this prosthesis hand is geared towards achieving high level of dexterity and anthropomorphism by means of a new hybrid mechanism that integrates a miniature motor driven actuation mechanism, a Shape Memory Alloy actuated mechanism and a passive mechanical linkage. The synergy of these actuators enables the flexion-extension movement at each of the finger joints within a limited size, shape and weight constraints. Tactile sensors are integrated on the finger tips and the finger phalanges area. This prosthesis hand is developed with an exact size ratio that mimics a biological hand. Its behavior resembles the human counterpart in terms of working envelope, speed and torque, and thus resembles both the key physical features and the grasping functionality of an adult hand.
Abstract: The people are differed by their capabilities, skills and mental agilities. The evolution of human from childhood when they are completely dependent up to adultness the time they gradually set the dependency free is too complicated, by considering they have all started from almost one point but some become cleverer and some less. The main control command of a cybernetic hand should be posted by remaining healthy organs of disabled Person. These commands can be from several channels, which their recording and detecting are different and need complicated study. In this research, we suppose that, this stage has been done or in the other words, the command has been already sent and detected. So the main goal is to control a long hand, upper elbow hand missing, by an interest angle define by disabled. It means that, the system input is the position desired by disables and the output is the elbow-joint angle variation. Therefore the goal is a suitable control design based on neural network theory in order to meet the given mapping.
Abstract: Knee joint forces are available by in vivo measurement
using an instrumented knee prosthesis for small to moderate knee
flexion but not for high flexion yet. We created a 2D mathematical
model of the lower limb incorporating several new features such as a
patello-femoral mechanism, a thigh-calf contact at high knee flexion
and co-contracting muscles' force ratio, then used it to determine knee
joint forces arising from high knee flexions in four kneeling
conditions: rising with legs in parallel, with one foot forward, with or
without arm use. With arms used, the maximum values of knee joint
force decreased to about 60% of those with arms not used. When rising
with one foot forward, if arms are not used, the forward leg sustains a
force as large as that sustained when rising with legs parallel.
