Abstract: Recently, the system of quick response (QR) code is getting popular. Many companies introduce new QR code payment services and the services are competing with each other to increase the number of users. For increasing the number of users, we should grasp the difference of feature of the demographic information, usage information, and value of users between services. In this study, we conduct an analysis of real-world data provided by Nomura Research Institute including the demographic data of users and information of users’ usages of two services; LINE Pay, and PayPay. For analyzing such data and interpret the feature of them, Nonnegative Matrix Factorization (NMF) is widely used; however, in case of the target data, there is a problem of the missing data. EM-algorithm NMF (EMNMF) to complete unknown values for understanding the feature of the given data presented by matrix shape. Moreover, for comparing the result of the NMF analysis of two matrices, there is Discriminant NMF (DNMF) shows the difference of users features between two matrices. In this study, we combine EMNMF and DNMF and also analyze the target data. As the interpretation, we show the difference of the features of users between LINE Pay and Paypay.
Abstract: The large pose discrepancy is one of the critical
challenges in face recognition during video surveillance. Due to
the entanglement of pose attributes with identity information, the
conventional approaches for pose-independent representation lack
in providing quality results in recognizing largely posed faces. In
this paper, we propose a practical approach to disentangle the pose
attribute from the identity information followed by synthesis of a face
using a classifier network in latent space. The proposed approach
employs a modified generative adversarial network framework
consisting of an encoder-decoder structure embedded with a classifier
in manifold space for carrying out factorization on the latent
encoding. It can be further generalized to other face and non-face
attributes for real-life video frames containing faces with significant
attribute variations. Experimental results and comparison with state
of the art in the field prove that the learned representation of the
proposed approach synthesizes more compelling perceptual images
through a combination of adversarial and classification losses.
Abstract: In this paper, we propose a framework to help users to search and retrieve the portions in the lecture video of their interest. This is achieved by temporally segmenting and indexing the lecture video using the topic keywords. We use transcribed text from the video and documents relevant to the video topic extracted from the web for this purpose. The keywords for indexing are found by applying the non-negative matrix factorization (NMF) topic modeling techniques on the web documents. Our proposed technique first creates indices on the transcribed documents using the topic keywords, and these are mapped to the video to find the start and end time of the portions of the video for a particular topic. This time information is stored in the index table along with the topic keyword which is used to retrieve the specific portions of the video for the query provided by the users.
Abstract: Rating prediction is an important problem for recommender systems. The task is to predict the rating for an item that a user would give. Most of the existing algorithms for the task ignore the effect of negative ratings rated by users on items, but the negative ratings have a significant impact on users’ purchasing decisions in practice. In this paper, we present a rating prediction algorithm based on factorization machines that consider the effect of negative ratings inspired by Loss Aversion theory. The aim of this paper is to develop a concave and a convex negative disgust function to evaluate the negative ratings respectively. Experiments are conducted on MovieLens dataset. The experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed methods by comparing with other four the state-of-the-art approaches. The negative ratings showed much importance in the accuracy of ratings predictions.
Abstract: In this paper, we consider the parametrization of the
discrete-time systems without the unit-delay element within the
framework of the factorization approach. In the parametrization,
we investigate the number of required parameters. We consider
single-input single-output systems in this paper. By the investigation,
we find, on the discrete-time systems without the unit-delay element,
three cases that are (1) there exist plants which require only one
parameter and (2) two parameters, and (3) the number of parameters
is at most three.
Abstract: A problem is formulated for the natural oscillations of a circular plate of linearly variable thickness on the basis of the symmetry method. The equations of natural frequencies and forms for a plate are obtained, providing that it is rigidly fixed along the inner contour. The first three eigenfrequencies are calculated, and the eigenmodes of the oscillations of the acoustic element are constructed. An algorithm for applying the symmetry method and the factorization method for solving problems in the theory of oscillations for plates of variable thickness is shown. The effectiveness of the approach is demonstrated on the basis of comparison of known results and those obtained in the article. It is shown that the results are more accurate and reliable.
Abstract: Recommender systems, also known as recommender engines, have become an important research area and are now being applied in various fields. In addition, the techniques behind the recommender systems have been improved over the time. In general, such systems help users to find their required products or services (e.g. books, music) through analyzing and aggregating other users’ activities and behavior, mainly in form of reviews, and making the best recommendations. The recommendations can facilitate user’s decision making process. Despite the wide literature on the topic, using multiple data sources of different types as the input has not been widely studied. Recommender systems can benefit from the high availability of digital data to collect the input data of different types which implicitly or explicitly help the system to improve its accuracy. Moreover, most of the existing research in this area is based on single rating measures in which a single rating is used to link users to items. This paper proposes a highly accurate hotel recommender system, implemented in various layers. Using multi-aspect rating system and benefitting from large-scale data of different types, the recommender system suggests hotels that are personalized and tailored for the given user. The system employs natural language processing and topic modelling techniques to assess the sentiment of the users’ reviews and extract implicit features. The entire recommender engine contains multiple sub-systems, namely users clustering, matrix factorization module, and hybrid recommender system. Each sub-system contributes to the final composite set of recommendations through covering a specific aspect of the problem. The accuracy of the proposed recommender system has been tested intensively where the results confirm the high performance of the system.
Abstract: In this paper, we consider the two-stage compensator
designs of SISO plants. As an investigation of the characteristics of
the two-stage compensator designs, which is not well investigated
yet, of SISO plants, we implement three dimensional visualization
systems of output signals and optimization system for SISO plants by
the parametrization of stabilizing controllers based on the two-stage
compensator design. The system runs on Mathematica by using
“Three Dimensional Surface Plots,” so that the visualization can
be interactively manipulated by users. In this paper, we use the
discrete-time LTI system model. Even so, our approach is the
factorization approach, so that the result can be applied to many
linear models.
Abstract: Subspace channel estimation methods have been
studied widely, where the subspace of the covariance matrix is
decomposed to separate the signal subspace from noise subspace. The
decomposition is normally done by using either the eigenvalue
decomposition (EVD) or the singular value decomposition (SVD) of
the auto-correlation matrix (ACM). However, the subspace
decomposition process is computationally expensive. This paper
considers the estimation of the multipath slow frequency hopping
(FH) channel using noise space based method. In particular, an
efficient method is proposed to estimate the multipath time delays by
applying multiple signal classification (MUSIC) algorithm which is
based on the null space extracted by the rank revealing LU (RRLU)
factorization. As a result, precise information is provided by the
RRLU about the numerical null space and the rank, (i.e., important
tool in linear algebra). The simulation results demonstrate the
effectiveness of the proposed novel method by approximately
decreasing the computational complexity to the half as compared
with RRQR methods keeping the same performance.
Abstract: Non-negative matrix factorization (NMF) is a useful computational method to find basis information of multivariate nonnegative data. A popular approach to solve the NMF problem is the multiplicative update (MU) algorithm. But, it has some defects. So the columnwisely alternating gradient (cAG) algorithm was proposed. In this paper, we analyze convergence of the cAG algorithm and show advantages over the MU algorithm. The stability of the equilibrium point is used to prove the convergence of the cAG algorithm. A classic model is used to obtain the equilibrium point and the invariant sets are constructed to guarantee the integrity of the stability. Finally, the convergence conditions of the cAG algorithm are obtained, which help reducing the evaluation time and is confirmed in the experiments. By using the same method, the MU algorithm has zero divisor and is convergent at zero has been verified. In addition, the convergence conditions of the MU algorithm at zero are similar to that of the cAG algorithm at non-zero. However, it is meaningless to discuss the convergence at zero, which is not always the result that we want for NMF. Thus, we theoretically illustrate the advantages of the cAG algorithm.
Abstract: This paper realized the 2-DOF controller structure for first order with time delay systems. The co-prime factorization is used to design observer based controller K(s), representing one degree of freedom. The problem is based on H∞ norm of mixed sensitivity and aims to achieve stability, robustness and disturbance rejection. Then, the other degree of freedom, prefilter F(s), is formulated as fixed structure polynomial controller to meet open loop processing of reference model. This model matching problem is solved by minimizing integral square error between reference model and proposed model. The feedback controller and prefilter designs are posed as optimization problem and solved using Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO). To show the efficiency of the designed approach different variety of processes are taken and compared for analysis.
Abstract: To solve saddle point systems efficiently, several preconditioners have been published. There are many methods for constructing preconditioners for linear systems from saddle point problems, for instance, the relaxed dimensional factorization (RDF) preconditioner and the augmented Lagrangian (AL) preconditioner are used for both steady and unsteady Navier-Stokes equations. In this paper we compare the RDF preconditioner with the modified AL (MAL) preconditioner to show which is more effective to solve Navier-Stokes equations. Numerical experiments indicate that the MAL preconditioner is more efficient and robust, especially, for moderate viscosities and stretched grids in steady problems. For unsteady cases, the convergence rate of the RDF preconditioner is slightly faster than the MAL perconditioner in some circumstances, but the parameter of the RDF preconditioner is more sensitive than the MAL preconditioner. Moreover the convergence rate of the MAL preconditioner is still quite acceptable. Therefore we conclude that the MAL preconditioner is more competitive than the RDF preconditioner. These experiments are implemented with IFISS package.
Abstract: In this paper, getting an high-efficiency parallel algorithm to solve sparse block pentadiagonal linear systems suitable for vectors and parallel processors, stair matrices are used to construct some parallel polynomial approximate inverse preconditioners. These preconditioners are appropriate when the desired target is to maximize parallelism. Moreover, some theoretical results about these preconditioners are presented and how to construct preconditioners effectively for any nonsingular block pentadiagonal H-matrices is also described. In addition, the availability of these preconditioners is illustrated with some numerical experiments arising from two dimensional biharmonic equation.
Abstract: In this paper a Public Key Cryptosystem is proposed
using the number theoretic transforms (NTT) over a ring of integer
modulo a composite number. The key agreement is similar to
ElGamal public key algorithm. The security of the system is based on
solution of multivariate linear congruence equations and discrete
logarithm problem. In the proposed cryptosystem only fixed numbers
of multiplications are carried out (constant complexity) and hence the
encryption and decryption can be done easily. At the same time, it is
very difficult to attack the cryptosystem, since the cipher text is a
sequence of integers which are interrelated. The system provides
authentication also. Using Mathematica version 5.0 the proposed
algorithm is justified with a numerical example.
Abstract: We have proposed an information filtering system
using index word selection from a document set based on the
topics included in a set of documents. This method narrows
down the particularly characteristic words in a document set
and the topics are obtained by Sparse Non-negative Matrix
Factorization. In information filtering, a document is often
represented with the vector in which the elements correspond
to the weight of the index words, and the dimension of the
vector becomes larger as the number of documents is
increased. Therefore, it is possible that useless words as index
words for the information filtering are included. In order to
address the problem, the dimension needs to be reduced. Our
proposal reduces the dimension by selecting index words
based on the topics included in a document set. We have
applied the Sparse Non-negative Matrix Factorization to the
document set to obtain these topics. The filtering is carried out
based on a centroid of the learning document set. The centroid
is regarded as the user-s interest. In addition, the centroid is
represented with a document vector whose elements consist of
the weight of the selected index words. Using the English test
collection MEDLINE, thus, we confirm the effectiveness of
our proposal. Hence, our proposed selection can confirm the
improvement of the recommendation accuracy from the other
previous methods when selecting the appropriate number of
index words. In addition, we discussed the selected index
words by our proposal and we found our proposal was able to
select the index words covered some minor topics included in
the document set.
Abstract: Numerical studies have been carried out using a two
dimensional code to examine the influence of pressure / thrust
transient of solid propellant rockets at liftoff. This code solves
unsteady Reynolds-averaged thin-layer Navier–Stokes equations by
an implicit LU-factorization time-integration method. The results
from the parametric study indicate that when the port is narrow there
is a possibility of increase in pressure / thrust-rise rate due to
relatively high flame spread rate. Parametric studies further reveal
that flame spread rate can be altered by altering the propellant
properties, igniter jet characteristics and nozzle closure burst pressure
without altering the grain configuration and/or the mission
demanding thrust transient. We observed that when the igniter
turbulent intensity is relatively low the vehicle could liftoff early due
to the early flow choking of the rocket nozzle. We concluded that the
high pressurization-rate has structural implications at liftoff in
addition to transient burning effect. Therefore prudent selection of the
port geometry and the igniter, for meeting the mission requirements,
within the given envelop are meaningful objectives for any designer
for the smooth liftoff of solid propellant rockets.
Abstract: As a result of the daily workflow in the design
development departments of companies, databases containing huge
numbers of 3D geometric models are generated. According to the
given problem engineers create CAD drawings based on their design
ideas and evaluate the performance of the resulting design, e.g. by
computational simulations. Usually, new geometries are built either
by utilizing and modifying sets of existing components or by adding
single newly designed parts to a more complex design.
The present paper addresses the two facets of acquiring
components from large design databases automatically and providing
a reasonable overview of the parts to the engineer. A unified
framework based on the topographic non-negative matrix
factorization (TNMF) is proposed which solves both aspects
simultaneously. First, on a given database meaningful components
are extracted into a parts-based representation in an unsupervised
manner. Second, the extracted components are organized and
visualized on square-lattice 2D maps. It is shown on the example of
turbine-like geometries that these maps efficiently provide a wellstructured
overview on the database content and, at the same time,
define a measure for spatial similarity allowing an easy access and
reuse of components in the process of design development.
Abstract: In this note, we demonstrate explicit LU
factorizations of Toeplitz matrices for some small sizes. Furthermore,
we obtain the inverse of referred Toeplitz matrices by appling the
above-mentioned results.
Abstract: In this paper, we present an algorithm for computing a
Schur factorization of a real nonsymmetric matrix with ordered diagonal
blocks such that upper left blocks contains the largest magnitude
eigenvalues. Especially in case of multiple eigenvalues, when matrix
is non diagonalizable, we construct an invariant subspaces with few
additional tricks which are heuristic and numerical results shows the
stability and accuracy of the algorithm.
Abstract: In this paper three different approaches for person
verification and identification, i.e. by means of fingerprints, face and
voice recognition, are studied. Face recognition uses parts-based
representation methods and a manifold learning approach. The
assessment criterion is recognition accuracy. The techniques under
investigation are: a) Local Non-negative Matrix Factorization
(LNMF); b) Independent Components Analysis (ICA); c) NMF with
sparse constraints (NMFsc); d) Locality Preserving Projections
(Laplacianfaces). Fingerprint detection was approached by classical
minutiae (small graphical patterns) matching through image
segmentation by using a structural approach and a neural network as
decision block. As to voice / speaker recognition, melodic cepstral
and delta delta mel cepstral analysis were used as main methods, in
order to construct a supervised speaker-dependent voice recognition
system. The final decision (e.g. “accept-reject" for a verification
task) is taken by using a majority voting technique applied to the
three biometrics. The preliminary results, obtained for medium
databases of fingerprints, faces and voice recordings, indicate the
feasibility of our study and an overall recognition precision (about
92%) permitting the utilization of our system for a future complex
biometric card.
