Abstract: Natural frequencies and dynamic response of a spur
gear sector are investigated using a two dimensional finite element
model that offers significant advantages for dynamic gear analyses.
The gear teeth are analyzed for different operating speeds. A primary
feature of this modeling is determination of mesh forces using a
detailed contact analysis for each time step as the gears roll through
the mesh. ANSYS software has been used on the proposed model to
find the natural frequencies by Block Lanczos technique and
displacements and dynamic stresses by transient mode super position
method. The effect of rotational speed of the gear on the dynamic
response of gear tooth has been studied and design limits have been
discussed.
Abstract: The aim of this paper is to determine the stress levels
at the end of a long slender shaft such as a drilling assembly used in
the oil or gas industry using a mathematical model in real-time. The
torsional deflection experienced by this type of drilling shaft (about 4
KM length and 20 cm diameter hollow shaft with a thickness of 1
cm) can only be determined using a distributed modeling technique.
The main objective of this project is to calculate angular velocity and
torque at the end of the shaft by TLM method and also analyzing of
the behavior of the system by transient response. The obtained result
is compared with lumped modeling technique the importance of these
results will be evident only after the mentioned comparison. Two
systems have different transient responses and in this project because
of the length of the shaft transient response is very important.
Abstract: The zero truncated model is usually used in modeling
count data without zero. It is the opposite of zero inflated model.
Zero truncated Poisson and zero truncated negative binomial models
are discussed and used by some researchers in analyzing the
abundance of rare species and hospital stay. Zero truncated models
are used as the base in developing hurdle models. In this study, we
developed a new model, the zero truncated strict arcsine model,
which can be used as an alternative model in modeling count data
without zero and with extra variation. Two simulated and one real
life data sets are used and fitted into this developed model. The
results show that the model provides a good fit to the data. Maximum
likelihood estimation method is used in estimating the parameters.
Abstract: Nowadays, there is little information, concerning the
heat shield systems, and this information is not completely reliable to
use in so many cases. for example, the precise calculation cannot be
done for various materials. In addition, the real scale test has two
disadvantages: high cost and low flexibility, and for each case we
must perform a new test. Hence, using numerical modeling program
that calculates the surface recession rate and interior temperature
distribution is necessary. Also, numerical solution of governing
equation for non-charring material ablation is presented in order to
anticipate the recession rate and the heat response of non-charring
heat shields. the governing equation is nonlinear and the Newton-
Rafson method along with TDMA algorithm is used to solve this
nonlinear equation system. Using Newton- Rafson method for
solving the governing equation is one of the advantages of the
solving method because this method is simple and it can be easily
generalized to more difficult problems. The obtained results
compared with reliable sources in order to examine the accuracy of
compiling code.
Abstract: Recently, a lot of attention has been devoted to
advanced techniques of system modeling. PNN(polynomial neural
network) is a GMDH-type algorithm (Group Method of Data
Handling) which is one of the useful method for modeling nonlinear
systems but PNN performance depends strongly on the number of
input variables and the order of polynomial which are determined by
trial and error. In this paper, we introduce GPNN (genetic
polynomial neural network) to improve the performance of PNN.
GPNN determines the number of input variables and the order of all
neurons with GA (genetic algorithm). We use GA to search between
all possible values for the number of input variables and the order of
polynomial. GPNN performance is obtained by two nonlinear
systems. the quadratic equation and the time series Dow Jones stock
index are two case studies for obtaining the GPNN performance.
Abstract: The mitigation of crop loss due to damaging freezes requires accurate air temperature prediction models. An improved model for temperature prediction in Georgia was developed by including information on seasonality and modifying parameters of an existing artificial neural network model. Alternative models were compared by instantiating and training multiple networks for each model. The inclusion of up to 24 hours of prior weather information and inputs reflecting the day of year were among improvements that reduced average four-hour prediction error by 0.18°C compared to the prior model. Results strongly suggest model developers should instantiate and train multiple networks with different initial weights to establish appropriate model parameters.
Abstract: When architecting an application, key nonfunctional requirements such as performance, scalability, availability and security, which influence the architecture of the system, are some times not adequately addressed. Performance of the application may not be looked at until there is a concern. There are several problems with this reactive approach. If the system does not meet its performance objectives, the application is unlikely to be accepted by the stakeholders. This paper suggests an approach for performance modeling for web based J2EE and .Net applications to address performance issues early in the development life cycle. It also includes a Performance Modeling Case Study, with Proof-of-Concept (PoC) and implementation details for .NET and J2EE platforms.
Abstract: In the present study, a procedure was developed to
determine the optimum reaction rate constants in generalized
Arrhenius form and optimized through the Nelder-Mead method. For
this purpose, a comprehensive mathematical model of a fixed bed
reactor for dehydrogenation of heavy paraffins over Pt–Sn/Al2O3
catalyst was developed. Utilizing appropriate kinetic rate expressions
for the main dehydrogenation reaction as well as side reactions and
catalyst deactivation, a detailed model for the radial flow reactor was
obtained. The reactor model composed of a set of partial differential
equations (PDE), ordinary differential equations (ODE) as well as
algebraic equations all of which were solved numerically to
determine variations in components- concentrations in term of mole
percents as a function of time and reactor radius. It was demonstrated
that most significant variations observed at the entrance of the bed
and the initial olefin production obtained was rather high. The
aforementioned method utilized a direct-search optimization
algorithm along with the numerical solution of the governing
differential equations. The usefulness and validity of the method was
demonstrated by comparing the predicted values of the kinetic
constants using the proposed method with a series of experimental
values reported in the literature for different systems.
Abstract: Guaranteeing the availability of the required parts at
the scheduled time represents a key logistical challenge. This is
especially important when several parts are required together. This
article describes a tool that supports the positioning in the area of
conflict between low stock costs and a high service level for a
consumer.
Abstract: The computer modeling is carried out for parameter of
sensitivity of optoelectronic chemical and biosensors, using
phenomena of surface plasmon resonance (SPR). The physical model
of SPR-sensor-s is described with (or without) of modifications of
sensitive gold film surface by a dielectric layer. The variants of
increasing of sensitivity for SPR-biosensors, constructed on the
principle gold – dielectric – biomolecular layer are considered. Two
methods of mathematical treatment of SPR-curve are compared –
traditional, with estimation of sensor-s response as shift of the SPRcurve
minimum and proposed, for system with dielectric layer, using
calculating of the derivative in the point of SPR-curve half-width.
Abstract: This paper describes the development of a control
system model using a graphical software tool. This control system is
part of an operator training simulator developed for the National
Training Center for Operators of Ixtapantongo (CNCAOI, acronym
according to its name in Spanish language) of the Mexico-s Federal
Commission of Electricity, CFE). The Department of Simulation of
the Electrical Research Institute (IIE) developed this simulator using
as reference the Unit I of the Combined Cycle Power Plant El Sauz,
located at the centre of Mexico. The first step in the project was the
developing of the Gas Turbine System and its control system
simulator. The Turbo Gas simulator was finished and delivered to
CNCAOI in March 2007 for commercial operation. This simulator is
a high-fidelity real time dynamic simulator built and tested for
accurate operation over the entire load range. The simulator was used
primarily for operator training although it has been used for
procedure development and evaluation of plant transients.
Abstract: Unified Modeling Language (UML) extensions for real time embedded systems (RTES) co-design, are taking a growing interest by a great number of industrial and research communities. The extension mechanism is provided by UML profiles for RTES. It aims at improving an easily-understood method of system design for non-experts. On the other hand, one of the key items of the co- design methods is the Hardware/Software partitioning and scheduling tasks. Indeed, it is mandatory to define where and when tasks are implemented and run. Unfortunately the main goals of co-design are not included in the usual practice of UML profiles. So, there exists a need for mapping used models to an execution platform for both schedulability test and HW/SW partitioning. In the present work, test schedulability and design space exploration are performed at an early stage. The proposed approach adopts Model Driven Engineering MDE. It starts from UML specification annotated with the recent profile for the Modeling and Analysis of Real Time Embedded systems MARTE. Following refinement strategy, transformation rules allow to find a feasible schedule that satisfies timing constraints and to define where tasks will be implemented. The overall approach is experimented for the design of a football player robot application.
Abstract: A kinetic model for propane dehydrogenation in an
industrial moving bed reactor is developed based on the reported
reaction scheme. The kinetic parameters and activity constant are
fine tuned with several sets of balanced plant data. Plant data at
different operating conditions is applied to validate the model and
the results show a good agreement between the model
predictions and plant observations in terms of the amount of main
product, propylene produced. The simulation analysis of key
variables such as inlet temperature of each reactor (Tinrx) and
hydrogen to total hydrocarbon ratio (H2/THC) affecting process
performance is performed to identify the operating condition to
maximize the production of propylene. Within the range of operating
conditions applied in the present studies, the operating condition to
maximize the propylene production at the same weighted average
inlet temperature (WAIT) is ΔTinrx1= -2, ΔTinrx2= +1, ΔTinrx3= +1 ,
ΔTinrx4= +2 and ΔH2/THC= -0.02. Under this condition, the surplus
propylene produced is 7.07 tons/day as compared with base case.
Abstract: The use of a Bayesian Hierarchical Model (BHM) to interpret breath measurements obtained during a 13C Octanoic Breath Test (13COBT) is demonstrated. The statistical analysis was implemented using WinBUGS, a commercially available computer package for Bayesian inference. A hierarchical setting was adopted where poorly defined parameters associated with a delayed Gastric Emptying (GE) were able to "borrow" strength from global distributions. This is proved to be a sufficient tool to correct model's failures and data inconsistencies apparent in conventional analyses employing a Non-linear least squares technique (NLS). Direct comparison of two parameters describing gastric emptying ng ( tlag -lag phase, t1/ 2 -half emptying time) revealed a strong correlation between the two methods. Despite our large dataset ( n = 164 ), Bayesian modeling was fast and provided a successful fitting for all subjects. On the contrary, NLS failed to return acceptable estimates in cases where GE was delayed.
Abstract: This paper describes a one-dimensional numerical model for natural gas production from the dissociation of methane hydrate in hydrate-capped gas reservoir under depressurization and thermal stimulation. Some of the hydrate reservoirs discovered are overlying a free-gas layer, known as hydrate-capped gas reservoirs. These reservoirs are thought to be easiest and probably the first type of hydrate reservoirs to be produced. The mathematical equations that can be described this type of reservoir include mass balance, heat balance and kinetics of hydrate decomposition. These non-linear partial differential equations are solved using finite-difference fully implicit scheme. In the model, the effect of convection and conduction heat transfer, variation change of formation porosity, the effect of using different equations of state such as PR and ER and steam or hot water injection are considered. In addition distributions of pressure, temperature, saturation of gas, hydrate and water in the reservoir are evaluated. It is shown that the gas production rate is a sensitive function of well pressure.
Abstract: This paper aims to establish a delayed dynamical relationship between payoffs of players in a zero-sum game. By introducing Markovian chain and time delay in the network model, a delayed game network model with sector bounds and slope bounds restriction nonlinear function is first proposed. As a result, a direct dynamical relationship between payoffs of players in a zero-sum game can be illustrated through a delayed singular system. Combined with Finsler-s Lemma and Lyapunov stable theory, a sufficient condition guaranteeing the unique existence and stability of zero-sum game-s Nash equilibrium is derived. One numerical example is presented to illustrate the validity of the main result.
Abstract: Prediction of benzene transport in soil and volatilization from soil to the atmosphere is important for the preservation of human health and management of contaminated soils. The adequacy of a simple numerical model, assuming two-phase diffusion and equilibrium of liquid/solid adsorption, was investigated by experimental data of benzene concentration in a flux chamber (with headspace) where Andosol and sand were filled. Adsorption experiment for liquid phase was performed to determine an adsorption coefficient. Furthermore, adequacy of vapor phase adsorption was also studied through two runs of experiment using sand with different water content. The results show that the model adequately predicted benzene transport and volatilization from Andosol and sand with water content of 14.0%. In addition, the experiment additionally revealed that vapor phase adsorption should be considered in diffusion model for sand with very low water content.
Abstract: Timing driven physical design, synthesis, and
optimization tools need efficient closed-form delay models for
estimating the delay associated with each net in an integrated circuit
(IC) design. The total number of nets in a modern IC design has
increased dramatically and exceeded millions. Therefore efficient
modeling of interconnection is needed for high speed IC-s. This
paper presents closed–form expressions for RC and RLC
interconnection trees in current mode signaling, which can be
implemented in VLSI design tool. These analytical model
expressions can be used for accurate calculation of delay after the
design clock tree has been laid out and the design is fully routed.
Evaluation of these analytical models is several orders of magnitude
faster than simulation using SPICE.
Abstract: Resistance spot welding process comprises of electric,
thermal and mechanical phenomenon, which makes this process
complex and highly non-linear and thus, it becomes difficult to model
it. In order to obtain good weld nugget during spot welding, hit and
trial welds are usually done which is very costly. Therefore the
numerical simulation research has been conducted to understand the
whole process. In this paper three different cases were analyzed by
varying the tip contact area and it was observed that, with the
variation of tip contact area the nugget formation at the faying
surface is affected. The tip contact area of the welding electrode
becomes large with long welding cycles. Therefore in order to
maintain consistency of nugget formation during the welding process,
the current compensation in control feedback is required. If the
contact area of the welding electrode tip is reduced, a large amount of
current flows through the faying surface, as a result of which
sputtering occurs.
Abstract: The purpose of this study is to derive parameters
estimating for the Lyman–Kutcher–Burman (LKB) normal tissue
complication probability (NTCP) model using analysis of scintigraphy
assessments and quality of life (QoL) measurement questionnaires for
the parotid gland (xerostomia). In total, 31 patients with
head-and-neck (HN) cancer were enrolled. Salivary excretion factor
(SEF) and EORTC QLQ-H&N35 questionnaires datasets are used for
the NTCP modeling to describe the incidence of grade 4 xerostomia.
Assuming that n= 1, NTCP fitted parameters are given as TD50= 43.6
Gy, m= 0.18 in SEF analysis, and as TD50= 44.1 Gy, m= 0.11 in QoL
measurements, respectively. SEF and QoL datasets can validate the
Quantitative Analyses of Normal Tissue Effects in the Clinic
(QUANTEC) guidelines well, resulting in NPV-s of 100% for the both
datasets and suggests that the QUANTEC 25/20Gy gland-spared
guidelines are suitable for clinical used for the HN cohort to
effectively avoid xerostomia.
