Abstract: On the basis of the linearized Phillips-Herffron model of a single-machine power system, a novel method for designing unified power flow controller (UPFC) based output feedback controller is presented. The design problem of output feedback controller for UPFC is formulated as an optimization problem according to with the time domain-based objective function which is solved by iteration particle swarm optimization (IPSO) that has a strong ability to find the most optimistic results. To ensure the robustness of the proposed damping controller, the design process takes into account a wide range of operating conditions and system configurations. The simulation results prove the effectiveness and robustness of the proposed method in terms of a high performance power system. The simulation study shows that the designed controller by Iteration PSO performs better than Classical PSO in finding the solution.
Abstract: An approach to develop the FPGA of a flexible key
RSA encryption engine that can be used as a standard device in the
secured communication system is presented. The VHDL modeling of
this RSA encryption engine has the unique characteristics of
supporting multiple key sizes, thus can easily be fit into the systems
that require different levels of security. A simple nested loop addition
and subtraction have been used in order to implement the RSA
operation. This has made the processing time faster and used
comparatively smaller amount of space in the FPGA. The hardware
design is targeted on Altera STRATIX II device and determined that
the flexible key RSA encryption engine can be best suited in the
device named EP2S30F484C3. The RSA encryption implementation
has made use of 13,779 units of logic elements and achieved a clock
frequency of 17.77MHz. It has been verified that this RSA
encryption engine can perform 32-bit, 256-bit and 1024-bit
encryption operation in less than 41.585us, 531.515us and 790.61us
respectively.
Abstract: In this paper we present a novel approach for face image coding. The proposed method makes a use of the features of video encoders like motion prediction. At first encoder selects appropriate prototype from the database and warps it according to features of encoding face. Warped prototype is placed as first I frame. Encoding face is placed as second frame as P frame type. Information about features positions, color change, selected prototype and data flow of P frame will be sent to decoder. The condition is both encoder and decoder own the same database of prototypes. We have run experiment with H.264 video encoder and obtained results were compared to results achieved by JPEG and JPEG2000. Obtained results show that our approach is able to achieve 3 times lower bitrate and two times higher PSNR in comparison with JPEG. According to comparison with JPEG2000 the bitrate was very similar, but subjective quality achieved by proposed method is better.
Abstract: Robot manipulators are highly coupled nonlinear
systems, therefore real system and mathematical model of dynamics
used for control system design are not same. Hence, fine-tuning of
controller is always needed. For better tuning fast simulation speed
is desired. Since, Matlab incorporates LAPACK to increase the speed
and complexity of matrix computation, dynamics, forward and
inverse kinematics of PUMA 560 is modeled on Matlab/Simulink in
such a way that all operations are matrix based which give very less
simulation time. This paper compares PID parameter tuning using
Genetic Algorithm, Simulated Annealing, Generalized Pattern Search
(GPS) and Hybrid Search techniques. Controller performances for all
these methods are compared in terms of joint space ITSE and
cartesian space ISE for tracking circular and butterfly trajectories.
Disturbance signal is added to check robustness of controller. GAGPS
hybrid search technique is showing best results for tuning PID
controller parameters in terms of ITSE and robustness.
Abstract: In this study, lipase production has been investigated
using submerge fermentation by Aspergillus niger in Kilka fish oil as
main substrate. The Taguchi method with an L9 orthogonal array
design was used to investigate the effect of parameters and their
levels on lipase productivity. The optimum conditions for Kilka fish
oil concentration, incubation temperature and pH were obtained 3
gr./ml 35°C and 7, respectively. The amount of lipase activity in
optimum condition was obtained 4.59IU/ml. By comparing this
amount with the amount of productivity in the olive oil medium
based on the cost of each medium, it was that using Kilka fish oil is
84% economical. Therefore Kilka fish oil can be used as an
economical and suitable substrate in the lipase production and
industrial usages.

Abstract: The incorporation of renewable energy sources for the sustainable electricity production is undertaking a more prominent role in electric power systems. Thus, it will be an indispensable incident that the characteristics of future power networks, their prospective stability for instance, get influenced by the imposed features of sustainable energy sources. One of the distinctive attributes of the sustainable energy sources is exhibiting the stochastic behavior. This paper investigates the impacts of this stochastic behavior on the small disturbance rotor angle stability in the upcoming electric power networks. Considering the various types of renewable energy sources and the vast variety of system configurations, the sensitivity analysis can be an efficient breakthrough towards generalizing the effects of new energy sources on the concept of stability. In this paper, the definition of small disturbance angle stability for future power systems and the iterative-stochastic way of its analysis are presented. Also, the effects of system parameters on this type of stability are described by performing a sensitivity analysis for an electric power test system.
Abstract: The stereophotogrammetry modality is gaining more widespread use in the clinical setting. Registration and visualization of this data, in conjunction with conventional 3D volumetric image modalities, provides virtual human data with textured soft tissue and internal anatomical and structural information. In this investigation computed tomography (CT) and stereophotogrammetry data is acquired from 4 anatomical phantoms and registered using the trimmed iterative closest point (TrICP) algorithm. This paper fully addresses the issue of imaging artifacts around the stereophotogrammetry surface edge using the registered CT data as a reference. Several iterative algorithms are implemented to automatically identify and remove stereophotogrammetry surface edge outliers, improving the overall visualization of the combined stereophotogrammetry and CT data. This paper shows that outliers at the surface edge of stereophotogrammetry data can be successfully removed automatically.
Abstract: In this paper, a class of generalized bi-directional associative memory (BAM) neural networks with mixed delays is investigated. On the basis of Lyapunov stability theory and contraction mapping theorem, some new sufficient conditions are established for the existence and uniqueness and globally exponential stability of equilibrium, which generalize and improve the previously known results. One example is given to show the feasibility and effectiveness of our results.
Abstract: Application-Specific Instruction (ASI ) set Processors
(ASIP) have become an important design choice for embedded
systems due to runtime flexibility, which cannot be provided by
custom ASIC solutions. One major bottleneck in maximizing ASIP
performance is the limitation on the data bandwidth between the
General Purpose Register File (GPRF) and ASIs. This paper presents
the Implicit Registers (IRs) to provide the desirable data bandwidth.
An ASI Input/Output model is proposed to formulate the overheads of
the additional data transfer between the GPRF and IRs, therefore,
an IRs allocation algorithm is used to achieve the better performance
by minimizing the number of extra data transfer instructions. The
experiment results show an up to 3.33x speedup compared to the
results without using IRs.
Abstract: Hyperglycemia-mediated accumulation of advanced glycation end-products (AGEs) play a pivotal role in the development of diabetic complications by inducing inflammation. In the present study, we evaluated the possible effects of water/ethanol (1/1, v/v) extracts (WEE) and its fractions from Canarium album Raeusch. (Chinese olive) which is a fruit used on AGEs-stimulated oxidative stress and inflammation in monocytes and vascular endothelial cells. Co-incubation of EA.hy926 endothelial cells with WEE and its fractions for 24h resulted in a significant decrease of monocyte–endothelial cell adhesion, the expression of ICAM-1, generation of intracellular ROS and depletion of GSH induced by AGEs. Chinese olive fruit extracts also reduced the expression of pro-inflammatory mediates, such as TNF-α, IL-1β and IL-6 in THP-1 cells. These findings suggested that Chinese olive fruit was able to protect vascular endothelium from dysfunction induced by AGEs.
Abstract: A numerical analysis used to simulate the effects of wavy surfaces and thermal radiation on natural convection heat transfer boundary layer flow over an inclined wavy plate has been investigated. A simple coordinate transformation is employed to transform the complex wavy surface into a flat plate. The boundary layer equations and the boundary conditions are discretized by the finite difference scheme and solved numerically using the Gauss-Seidel algorithm with relaxation coefficient. Effects of the wavy geometry, the inclination angle of the wavy plate and the thermal radiation on the velocity profiles, temperature profiles and the local Nusselt number are presented and discussed in detail.
Abstract: Reducing river sediments through path correction and
preservation of river walls leads to considerable reduction of
sedimentation at the pumping stations. Path correction and
preservation of walls is not limited to one particular method but,
depending on various conditions, a combination of several methods
can be employed. In this article, we try to review and evaluate
methods for preservation of river banks in order to reduce sediments.
Abstract: The protection of parallel transmission lines has been a challenging task due to mutual coupling between the adjacent circuits of the line. This paper presents a novel scheme for detection and classification of faults on parallel transmission lines. The proposed approach uses combination of wavelet transform and neural network, to solve the problem. While wavelet transform is a powerful mathematical tool which can be employed as a fast and very effective means of analyzing power system transient signals, artificial neural network has a ability to classify non-linear relationship between measured signals by identifying different patterns of the associated signals. The proposed algorithm consists of time-frequency analysis of fault generated transients using wavelet transform, followed by pattern recognition using artificial neural network to identify the type of the fault. MATLAB/Simulink is used to generate fault signals and verify the correctness of the algorithm. The adaptive discrimination scheme is tested by simulating different types of fault and varying fault resistance, fault location and fault inception time, on a given power system model. The simulation results show that the proposed scheme for fault diagnosis is able to classify all the faults on the parallel transmission line rapidly and correctly.
Abstract: Study on suppression of interference in time domain equalizers is attempted for high data rate impulse radio (IR) ultra wideband communication system. The narrow band systems may cause interference with UWB devices as it is having very low transmission power and the large bandwidth. SRAKE receiver improves system performance by equalizing signals from different paths. This enables the use of SRAKE receiver techniques in IRUWB systems. But Rake receiver alone fails to suppress narrowband interference (NBI). A hybrid SRake-MMSE time domain equalizer is proposed to overcome this by taking into account both the effect of the number of rake fingers and equalizer taps. It also combats intersymbol interference. A semi analytical approach and Monte-Carlo simulation are used to investigate the BER performance of SRAKEMMSE receiver on IEEE 802.15.3a UWB channel models. Study on non-line of sight indoor channel models (both CM3 and CM4) illustrates that bit error rate performance of SRake-MMSE receiver with NBI performs better than that of Rake receiver without NBI. We show that for a MMSE equalizer operating at high SNR-s the number of equalizer taps plays a more significant role in suppressing interference.
Abstract: The induction hardening machines are utilized in
the industries which modify machine parts and tools needed to
achieve high ware resistance. This paper describes the model of
induction heating process design of inverter circuit and the results
of induction surface hardening of heating coil. In the design of
heating coil, the shape and the turn numbers of the coil are very
important design factors because they decide the overall operating
performance of induction heater including resonant frequency, Q
factor, efficiency and power factor. The performance will be tested
by experiments in some cases high frequency induction hardening
machine.
Abstract: In this paper, we investigate the solution of a two dimensional parabolic free boundary problem. The free boundary of this problem is modelled as a nonlinear integral equation (IE). For this integral equation, we propose an asymptotic solution as time is near to maturity and develop an integral iterative method. The computational results reveal that our asymptotic solution is very close to the numerical solution as time is near to maturity.
Abstract: In this paper, an experimentation to enhance the
visibility of hot objects in a thermal image acquired with ordinary
digital camera is reported, after the applications of lowpass and
median filters to suppress the distracting granular noises. The
common thresholding and slicing techniques were used on the
histogram at different gray levels, followed by a subjective
comparative evaluation. The best result came out with the threshold
level 115 and the number of slices 3.
Abstract: Bio-demographic diversity which refers to age and gender of members in a team, has been frequently identified to influence team innovation directly. As the theories expanded, biodemographic diversity was suggested to influence team innovation via psychosocial trait and interaction process. This study examines those suggestions, in which psychosocial trait and interaction process were operationalized as 'participation safety climate' and 'team reflexivity' respectively. The role of team reflexivity as a mediator to participation safety climate and team innovation was also assessed. Due to a small number of teams involved in the study, data were analyzed by using a PLS-graph. While the results show only gender is significantly related to the participation safety climate, which in turn influences team reflexivity and team innovation, there is no statistical evidence that team reflexivity mediates the impact of participation safety climate on team innovation.
Abstract: Different types of Islamic debts have been
increasingly utilized as preferred means of debt funding by
Malaysian private firms in recent years. This study examines the
impact of Islamic debts announcement on private firms- stock
returns. Our sample includes forty five listed companies on Bursa
Malaysia involved in issuing of Islamic debts during 2005 to 2008.
The abnormal returns and cumulative average abnormal returns are
calculated and tested using standard event study methodology. The
results show that a significant, negative abnormal return occurs one
day before announcement date. This negative abnormal return is
representing market participant-s adverse attitude toward Islamic
private debt announcement during the research period.
