Abstract: A myriad of environmental issues face the Nigerian
industrial region, resulting from; oil and gas production, mining,
manufacturing and domestic wastes. Amidst these, much effort has
been directed by stakeholders in the Nigerian oil producing regions,
because of the impacts of the region on the wider Nigerian economy.
Although collaborative environmental management has been noted as
an effective approach in managing environmental issues, little
attention has been given to the roles and practices of stakeholders in
effecting a collaborative environmental management framework for
the Nigerian oil-producing region. This paper produces a framework
to expand and deepen knowledge relating to stakeholders aspects of
collaborative roles in managing environmental issues in the Nigeria
oil-producing region. The knowledge is derived from analysis of
stakeholders’ practices – studied through multiple case studies using
document analysis. Selected documents of key stakeholders –
Nigerian government agencies, multi-national oil companies and host
communities, were analyzed. Open and selective coding was
employed manually during document analysis of data collected from
the offices and websites of the stakeholders. The findings showed
that the stakeholders have a range of roles, practices, interests, drivers
and barriers regarding their collaborative roles in managing
environmental issues. While they have interests for efficient resource
use, compliance to standards, sharing of responsibilities, generating
of new solutions, and shared objectives; there is evidence of major
barriers and these include resource allocation, disjointed policy,
ineffective monitoring, diverse socio- economic interests, lack of
stakeholders’ commitment and limited knowledge sharing. However,
host communities hold deep concerns over the collaborative roles of
stakeholders for economic interests, particularly, where government
agencies and multi-national oil companies are involved. With these
barriers and concerns, a genuine stakeholders’ collaboration is found
to be limited, and as a result, optimal environmental management
practices and policies have not been successfully implemented in the
Nigeria oil-producing region. A framework is produced that describes
practices that characterize collaborative environmental management
might be employed to satisfy the stakeholders’ interests. The
framework recommends critical factors, based on the findings, which
may guide a collaborative environmental management in the oil
producing regions. The recommendations are designed to re-define
the practices of stakeholders in managing environmental issues in the
oil producing regions, not as something wholly new, but as an
approach essential for implementing a sustainable environmental
policy. This research outcome may clarify areas for future research as
well as to contribute to industry guidance in the area of collaborative
environmental management.

Abstract: Prior literature in the field of adaptive and
personalized learning sequence in e-learning have proposed and
implemented various mechanisms to improve the learning process
such as individualization and personalization, but complex to
implement due to expensive algorithmic programming and need of
extensive and prior data. The main objective of personalizing
learning sequence is to maximize learning by dynamically selecting
the closest teaching operation in order to achieve the learning
competency of learner. In this paper, a revolutionary technique has
been proposed and tested to perform individualization and
personalization using modified reversed roulette wheel selection
algorithm that runs at O(n). The technique is simpler to implement
and is algorithmically less expensive compared to other revolutionary
algorithms since it collects the dynamic real time performance matrix
such as examinations, reviews, and study to form the RWSA single
numerical fitness value. Results show that the implemented system is
capable of recommending new learning sequences that lessens time
of study based on student's prior knowledge and real performance
matrix.

Abstract: Microcantilevers are the basic MEMS devices, which
can be used as sensors, actuators and electronics can be easily built
into them. The detection principle of microcantilever sensors is based
on the measurement of change in cantilever deflection or change in its
resonance frequency. The objective of this work is to explore the
analogies between mechanical and electrical equivalent of
microcantilever beams. Normally scientists and engineers working in
MEMS use expensive software like CoventorWare, IntelliSuite,
ANSYS/Multiphysics etc. This paper indicates the need of developing
electrical equivalent of the MEMS structure and with that, one can
have a better insight on important parameters, and their interrelation of
the MEMS structure. In this work, considering the mechanical model
of microcantilever, equivalent electrical circuit is drawn and using
force-voltage analogy, it is analyzed with circuit simulation software.
By doing so, one can gain access to powerful set of intellectual tools
that have been developed for understanding electrical circuits Later
the analysis is performed using ANSYS/Multiphysics - software based
on finite element method (FEM). It is observed that both mechanical
and electrical domain results for a rectangular microcantlevers are in
agreement with each other.
Abstract: Software quality issues require special attention
especially in view of the demands of quality software product to meet
customer satisfaction. Software development projects in most
organisations need proper defect management process in order to
produce high quality software product and reduce the number of
defects. The research question of this study is how to produce high
quality software and reducing the number of defects. Therefore, the
objective of this paper is to provide a framework for managing
software defects by following defined life cycle processes. The
methodology starts by reviewing defects, defect models, best
practices, and standards. A framework for defect management life
cycle is proposed. The major contribution of this study is to define a
defect management roadmap in software development. The adoption
of an effective defect management process helps to achieve the
ultimate goal of producing high quality software products and
contributes towards continuous software process improvement.
Abstract: In the past years electric mobility became part of a
public discussion. The trend to fully electrified vehicles instead of
vehicles fueled with fossil energy has notably gained momentum.
Today nearly every big car manufacturer produces and sells fully
electrified vehicles, but electrified vehicles are still not as competitive
as conventional powered vehicles. As the traction battery states the
largest cost driver, lowering its price is a crucial objective. In
addition to improvements in product and production processes a nonnegligible,
but widely underestimated cost driver of production can
be found in logistics, since the production technology is not
continuous yet and neither are the logistics systems. This paper presents an approach to evaluate cost factors on
different designs of load carrier systems. Due to numerous
interdependencies, the combination of costs factors for a particular
scenario is not transparent. This is effecting actions for cost reduction
negatively, but still cost reduction is one of the major goals for
simultaneous engineering processes. Therefore a concurrent and
phase appropriate cost valuation method is necessary to serve cost
transparency. In this paper the four phases of this cost valuation
method are defined and explained, which based upon a new approach
integrating the logistics development process in to the integrated
product and process development.
Abstract: Job satisfaction and motivation have been given an
important attention in psychology because they are seen as main
instruments in maintaining organizational growth and development;
they are also used to accomplish organizational aims and objectives.
However, it has been observed that some institutions failed in
motivating and stimulating their workers; in contrast, workers may be
motivated but not satisfied with the job and failed to perform
efficiently and effectively. It is hoped that the study of this nature
would be of significance value to all stakeholders in education
specifically, lecturers in higher institutions in Nigeria. Also, it is
hoped that the findings of this study will enhance lecturers’
effectiveness and performance in discharging their duties. In the light
of the above statements, this study investigated whether job
satisfaction and motivation predict lecturers’ effectiveness in Nigeria
Police Academy, Wudil, Kano State. Correlational research method
was adopted for the study, while purposive sampling technique was
used to choose the institution and the sampled lectures (70). Simple
random sampling technique was used to select one hundred cadets
across the academy. Two instruments were used to elicit information
from both lecturers and cadets. These were job satisfaction and
motivation; and lecturers’ effectiveness Questionnaires. The
instruments were subjected to pilot testing and found to have
reliability coefficient of 0.69 and 0.71 respectively. The results of the
study revealed that there was a significance relationship among job
satisfaction, motivation and lecturers effectiveness in Nigeria Police
Academy. There was a significance relationship between job
satisfaction and lecturers’ effectiveness in Nigeria Police Academy

Abstract: Password authentication is one of the widely used
methods to achieve authentication for legal users of computers and
defense against attackers. There are many different ways to
authenticate users of a system and there are many password cracking
methods also developed. This paper proposes how best password
cracking can be performed on a CPU-GPGPU based system. The
main objective of this work is to project how quickly a password can
be cracked with some knowledge about the computer security and
password cracking if sufficient security is not incorporated to the
system.
Abstract: Considering the challenges of short product life cycles
and growing variant diversity, cost minimization and manufacturing
flexibility increasingly gain importance to maintain a competitive
edge in today’s global and dynamic markets. In this context, an
aerodynamic part feeding system for high-speed industrial assembly
applications has been developed at the Institute of Production
Systems and Logistics (IFA), Leibniz Universitaet Hannover. The
aerodynamic part feeding system outperforms conventional systems
with respect to its process safety, reliability, and operating speed. In
this paper, a multi-objective optimisation of the aerodynamic feeding
system regarding the orientation rate, the feeding velocity, and the
required nozzle pressure is presented.
Abstract: The goal of this paper is to identify the main
differences in the way men and women perceive TV ads. This paper
is based on a research project conducted partly as a review of relevant
papers, which deals with gender influence on the cognitive process
and postmodern perception of advertising. In addition to that,
qualitative research was conducted by means of interviews and
structured questionnaires. Furthermore, data acquired from the
research were used to evaluate our objectives and hypotheses. The
goal of this paper is to compare women's and men's perception of
advertisement. Although women are able to perceive more details
than men, men are more susceptible to sexual appeals in advertising.
Significant differences were also found in the perception of sexual
appeals in the context of gender.
Abstract: Concurrent planning of project scheduling and
material ordering has been increasingly addressed within last decades
as an approach to improve the project execution costs. Therefore, we
have taken the problem into consideration in this paper, aiming to
maximize schedules quality robustness, in addition to minimize the
relevant costs. In this regard, a bi-objective mathematical model is
developed to formulate the problem. Moreover, it is possible to
utilize the all-unit discount for materials purchasing. The problem is
then solved by the E-constraint method, and the Pareto front is
obtained for a variety of robustness values. The applicability and
efficiency of the proposed model is tested by different numerical
instances, finally.
Abstract: The aim of this work is to detect geometrical shape
objects in an image. In this paper, the object is considered to be as a
circle shape. The identification requires find three characteristics,
which are number, size, and location of the object. To achieve the
goal of this work, this paper presents an algorithm that combines
from some of statistical approaches and image analysis techniques.
This algorithm has been implemented to arrive at the major
objectives in this paper. The algorithm has been evaluated by using
simulated data, and yields good results, and then it has been applied
to real data.
Abstract: Wireless networks are built upon the open shared
medium which makes easy for attackers to conduct malicious
activities. Jamming is one of the most serious security threats to
information economy and it must be dealt efficiently. Jammer
prevents legitimate data to reach the receiver side and also it
seriously degrades the network performance. The objective of this
paper is to provide a general overview of jamming in wireless
network. It covers relevant works, different jamming techniques,
various types of jammers and typical prevention techniques.
Challenges associated with comparing several anti-jamming
techniques are also highlighted.
Abstract: Despite all the wide research and literature on the
subject, changing and challenging times often present themselves
with new objectives, fluid politics, and everlasting point of views.
Much is said about the subject and the trend nowadays is watching
every European Union (EU) intervention as a form of neo
colonialism or a form of establishing new markets. The paper will try to establish a perspective on EU influences,
policies and impacts analyzed from multidimensional point of view,
not limiting itself on a narrow external dimension, focusing on a
broader understanding of it diverse contribution to global governance
and peace keeping. Tending to be critical, this paper tends to fall out of extremes,
nether holding a Eurocentric position, nor falling for cheap critic to
the whole failures and impact of EU policies. The ambition is to
show EU as a contributing factor while keeping in mind its nature as
a multi layered actor and with not necessarily coinciding interests
among its member states.
Abstract: Slash or Yaoi fan art is the artwork that contains a
homosexual relationship between fictional male characters, who were
heterosexual in the original media. Previous belief about Slash or
Yaoi fan art is that the fan fiction writers and the fan artists need to
see the equality in romantic relationship. They do not prefer the
pairing of man and woman, since both genders are not equal. The
objectives of the current study are to confirm this belief, and to
examine the relationship between equality found in Slash fan art,
friendship in original media, and violence contained in fan art. Mean
comparisons show that equality could be found in the pairing of hero
and hero, but rarely found in the pairing of hero and villain.
Regression analysis shows that the level of equality in fan art and
friendship in original media are significant predictors of violence
contained in fan art. Since villain-related pairings yield a high level
of violence in fan art and a low level of equality, researchers of future
studies should find the strategies to prevent fans to include villains in
their Slash or Yaoi fan art.
Abstract: The objective of this work is to carryout critical
comparison of different actuation mechanisms like electrostatic,
thermal, piezoelectric, and magnetic with reference to a micro
cantilever. The relevant parameters like force generated,
displacement are compared in actuation methods. With these results,
helps in choosing the best actuation method for a particular
application. In this study, Comsol/Multiphysics software is used.
Modeling and simulation is done by considering the micro cantilever
of same dimensions as an actuator using all the above mentioned
actuation techniques. In addition to their small size, micro actuators
consume very little power and are capable of accurate results. In this
work, a comparison of actuation mechanisms is done to decide the
efficient system in micro domain.
Abstract: Given the increase in the number of e-commerce sites,
the number of competitors has become very important. This means
that companies have to take appropriate decisions in order to meet the
expectations of their customers and satisfy their needs. In this paper,
we present a case study of applying LRFM (length, recency,
frequency and monetary) model and clustering techniques in the
sector of electronic commerce with a view to evaluating customers’
values of the Moroccan e-commerce websites and then developing
effective marketing strategies. To achieve these objectives, we adopt
LRFM model by applying a two-stage clustering method. In the first
stage, the self-organizing maps method is used to determine the best
number of clusters and the initial centroid. In the second stage, kmeans
method is applied to segment 730 customers into nine clusters
according to their L, R, F and M values. The results show that the
cluster 6 is the most important cluster because the average values of
L, R, F and M are higher than the overall average value. In addition,
this study has considered another variable that describes the mode of
payment used by customers to improve and strengthen clusters’
analysis. The clusters’ analysis demonstrates that the payment method is
one of the key indicators of a new index which allows to assess the
level of customers’ confidence in the company's Website.
Abstract: Effective internal control system in the bursary unit of
tertiary educational institutions is geared toward achieving quality
teaching, learning and research environment and as well assist the
management of the institutions, particularly when decisions are to be
made. While internal control system exists in all institutions, the
outlined objectives above are far from being achieved. The paper
therefore assesses the effectiveness of internal control system in
tertiary educational institutions in Nasarawa State, Nigeria with
specific focus on the Nasarawa State Polytechnic, Lafia. The study is
survey, hence a simple closed ended questionnaire was developed
and administered to a sample of twenty seven (27) member staff from
the Bursary and the Internal audit unit of the Nasarawa State
Polytechnic, Lafia so as to obtain data for analysis purposes and to
test the study hypothesis. Responses from the questionnaire were
analysed using a simple percentage and chi square. Findings shows
that the right people are not assigned to the right job in the
department, budget, and management accounting were never used in
the institution’s operations and checking of subordinate by their
superior officers is not regular. This renders the current internal
control structure of the Polytechnic as ineffective and weak. The
paper therefore recommends that: transparency should be seen as
significant, as the institution work toward meeting its objectives, it
therefore means that the right staff be assigned the right job and
regular checking of the subordinates by their superiors be ensued.
Abstract: Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is one of the
most important medical imaging modality. Subjective assessment of
the image quality is regarded as the gold standard to evaluate MR
images. In this study, a database of 210 MR images which contains
ten reference images and 200 distorted images is presented. The
reference images were distorted with four types of distortions: Rician
Noise, Gaussian White Noise, Gaussian Blur and DCT compression.
The 210 images were assessed by ten subjects. The subjective scores
were presented in Difference Mean Opinion Score (DMOS). The
DMOS values were compared with four FR-IQA metrics. We have
used Pearson Linear Coefficient (PLCC) and Spearman Rank Order
Correlation Coefficient (SROCC) to validate the DMOS values. The
high correlation values of PLCC and SROCC shows that the DMOS
values are close to the objective FR-IQA metrics.
