Abstract: A circularly polarized fractal boundary microstrip
antenna is presented. The sides of a square patch along x- axis, yaxis
are replaced with Minkowski and Koch curves correspondingly.
By using the fractal curves as edges, asymmetry in the structure is
created to excite two orthogonal modes for circular polarization (CP)
operation. The indentation factors of the fractal curves are optimized
for pure CP. The simulated results of the novel polyfractal antenna
are demonstrated.
Abstract: Nanotechnology is the new cyber, according to several major leaders in this field. Just as cyber is entrenched across global society now, nano is poised to be major capabilities enabler of the next decades. Expert members from the National Nanotechnology Initiative (in U.S.) representing government and science disciplines say nano has great significance for the military and the general public. It is predicted that after next 15 years nanotechnology will replace information technology as the most economic technology platform. Nanotechnology has even wider applications than information technology.
Abstract: This study focuses on the cooling of a photovoltaic
panel (PV). Indeed, the cooling improves the conversion capacity of
this one and maintains, under extreme conditions of air temperature,
the panel temperature at an appreciable level which avoids the
altering. To do this, a fan provides forced circulation of air. Because
the fan is supplied by the panel, it is necessary to determine the
optimum operating point that unites efficiency of the PV with the
consumption of the fan. For this matter, numerical simulations are
performed at varying mass flow rates of air, under two extreme air
temperatures (50°C, 25°C) and a fixed solar radiation (1000W.m2) in
a case of no wind.
Abstract: The study deals with the challenges in developing a
test rig to test the performance of water lubricated journal bearing.
The test rig is designed to simulate the working conditions of the
bearing in order to understand their performance before they are put
in operation. The bearing that is studied is the commercially available
water lubricated bearing which has a rubber liner bonded with a rigid
metal shell. The lubricant enters the bearing axially through a
pressurized inlet tank and exits to an outlet tank which is at
sufficiently low pressure. The load on the bearing is applied through
the dead weight system which acts both in upward and downward
direction so that net load acts on the bearing. The issues in feeding
the lubricant into the bearing from the inlet side and preventing the
leakage of the lubricant is discussed. The application of the load on
the test bearing while maintaining the bearing afloat is also discussed.
Abstract: Cognitive Radio is a turning out technology that
empowers viable usage of the spectrum. Energy Detector-based
Sensing is the most broadly utilized spectrum sensing strategy.
Besides, it's a lot of generic as receivers doesn't would like any
information on the primary user's signals, channel data, of even the
sort of modulation. This paper puts forth the execution of energy
detection sensing for AM (Amplitude Modulated) signal at 710 KHz,
FM (Frequency Modulated) signal at 103.45 MHz (local station
frequency), Wi-Fi signal at 2.4 GHz and WiMAX signals at 6 GHz.
The OFDM/OFDMA based WiMAX physical layer with
convolutional channel coding is actualized utilizing USRP N210
(Universal Software Radio Peripheral) and GNU Radio based
Software Defined Radio (SDR). Test outcomes demonstrated the
BER (Bit Error Rate) augmentation with channel noise and BER
execution is dissected for different Eb/N0 (the energy per bit to noise
power spectral density ratio) values.
Abstract: This paper addresses the reduction of peak to average
power ratio (PAPR) for the OFDM in Mobile-WiMAX physical layer
(PHY) standard. In the process, the best achievable PAPR of 0 dB is
found for the OFDM spectrum using phase modulation technique
which avoids the nonlinear distortion. The performance of the
WiMAX PHY standard is handled by the software defined radio
(SDR) prototype in which GNU Radio and USRP N210 employed as
software and hardware platforms respectively. It is also found that
BER performance is shown for different coding and different
modulation schemes. To empathize wireless propagation in specific
environments, a sliding correlator wireless channel sounding system
is designed by using SDR testbed.
Abstract: This paper deals with the issue of biomass and sorted
municipal waste gasification and cogeneration using hot-air turbo-set.
It brings description of designed pilot plant with electrical output 80
kWe. The generated gas is burned in secondary combustion chamber
located beyond the gas generator. Flue gas flows through the heat
exchanger where the compressed air is heated and consequently
brought to a micro turbine. Except description, this paper brings our
basic experiences from operating of pilot plant (operating parameters,
contributions, problems during operating, etc.). The principal
advantage of the given cycle is the fact that there is no contact
between the generated gas and the turbine. So there is no need for
costly and complicated gas cleaning which is the main source of
operating problems in direct use in combustion engines because the
content of impurities in the gas causes operation problems to the units
due to clogging and tarring of working surfaces of engines and
turbines, which may lead as far as serious damage to the equipment
under operation. Another merit is the compact container package
making installation of the facility easier or making it relatively more
mobile. We imagine, this solution of cogeneration from biomass or
waste can be suitable for small industrial or communal applications,
for low output cogeneration.
Abstract: This paper explores competencies that managers of
small firms in Ghana use to enhance operational flexibility towards
the attainment of higher productivity. This is because the requisite
competence required of such managers to be effective performers
continues to be a challenge. Data was collected from managers of
three hundred small firms using a standardized self-completion
questionnaire and analyzed using the Amos-based structural equation
model approach. Findings from factor and confirmatory factor
analyses showed that the only competence exhibited by managers
toward effective performance is realistic practices evident at the
workplace. It is concluded that a manager’s self-confidence and
involvement in areas that he/she is good at, and his/her possession of
skills that enables performance at high capacity are indications of the
manger’s effectiveness. The study outcome provides a knowledge
base helpful to policy-makers, especially in Ghana, in determining
the requisite managerial competences required by small firm
managers for effective performance.
Abstract: Chloride resistance in Ultra High Performance
Concrete (UHPC) is determined in this paper. This work deals with
the one dimension chloride transport, which can be potentially
dangerous particularly for the durability of concrete structures. Risk
of reinforcement corrosion due to exposure to the concrete surface to
direct the action of chloride ions (mainly in the form de-icing salts or
groundwater) is dangerously increases. The measured data are
investigated depending on the depth of penetration of chloride ions
into the concrete structure. Comparative measurements with normal
strength concrete are done as well. The experimental results showed
that UHCP have improved resistance of chlorides penetration than
NSC and also chloride diffusion depth is significantly lower in
UHCP.
Abstract: The aim of this work is to present a theoretical analysis of a 2D ultrasound transducer comprised of crossed arrays of metal strips placed on both sides of thin piezoelectric layer (a). Such a structure is capable of electronic beam-steering of generated wavebeam both in elevation and azimuth. In this paper a semi-analytical model of the considered transducer is developed. It is based on generalization of the well-known BIS-expansion method. Specifically, applying the electrostatic approximation, the electric field components on the surface of the layer are expanded into fast converging series of double periodic spatial harmonics with corresponding amplitudes represented by the properly chosen Legendre polynomials. The problem is reduced to numerical solving of certain system of linear equations for unknown expansion coefficients.
Abstract: In this numerical study, we want to present the design
of highly efficient extruded-type heat sink. The symmetrically
arranged extruded-type heat sinks are used instead of a single extruded
or swaged-type heat sink. In this parametric study, the maximum
temperatures, the base temperatures between heaters, and the heat
release rates were investigated with respect to the arrangements of heat
sources, air flow rates, and amounts of heat input. Based on the results
we believe that the use of both side of heat sink is to be much better for
release the heat than the use of single side. Also from the results, it is
believed that the symmetric arrangement of heat sources is
recommended to achieve a higher heat transfer from the heat sink.
Abstract: A method which allows a diabetic quadriplegic patient
that has had four limb amputations (above the knee and elbow) to
self-administer injections of insulin has been designed. The aim of
this research project is to improve a quadriplegic patient’s selfmanagement,
affected by diabetes, by designing a suitable device for
self-administering insulin.
The quadriplegic patient affected by diabetes has to be able to selfadminister
insulin safely and independently to guarantee stable
healthy conditions. The device also should be designed to adapt to a
number of different varying personal characteristics such as height
and body weight.
Abstract: Over the past era, there have been a lot of efforts and
studies are carried out in growing proficient tools for performing
various tasks in big data. Recently big data have gotten a lot of
publicity for their good reasons. Due to the large and complex
collection of datasets it is difficult to process on traditional data
processing applications. This concern turns to be further mandatory
for producing various tools in big data. Moreover, the main aim of
big data analytics is to utilize the advanced analytic techniques
besides very huge, different datasets which contain diverse sizes from
terabytes to zettabytes and diverse types such as structured or
unstructured and batch or streaming. Big data is useful for data sets
where their size or type is away from the capability of traditional
relational databases for capturing, managing and processing the data
with low-latency. Thus the out coming challenges tend to the
occurrence of powerful big data tools. In this survey, a various
collection of big data tools are illustrated and also compared with the
salient features.
Abstract: In this study, a three dimensional numerical heat
transfer model has been used to simulate the laser structuring of
polymer substrate material in the Three-Dimensional Molded
Interconnect Device (3D MID) which is used in the advanced multifunctional
applications. A finite element method (FEM) transient
thermal analysis is performed using APDL (ANSYS Parametric
Design Language) provided by ANSYS. In this model, the effect of
surface heat source was modeled with Gaussian distribution, also the
effect of the mixed boundary conditions which consist of convection
and radiation heat transfers have been considered in this analysis. The
model provides a full description of the temperature distribution, as
well as calculates the depth and the width of the groove upon material
removal at different set of laser parameters such as laser power and
laser speed. This study also includes the experimental procedure to
study the effect of laser parameters on the depth and width of the
removal groove metal as verification to the modeled results. Good
agreement between the experimental and the model results is
achieved for a wide range of laser powers. It is found that the quality
of the laser structure process is affected by the laser scan speed and
laser power. For a high laser structured quality, it is suggested to use
laser with high speed and moderate to high laser power.
Abstract: Estimation of a proportion has many applications in
economics and social studies. A common application is the estimation
of the low income proportion, which gives the proportion of people
classified as poor into a population. In this paper, we present this
poverty indicator and propose to use the logistic regression estimator
for the problem of estimating the low income proportion. Various
sampling designs are presented. Assuming a real data set obtained
from the European Survey on Income and Living Conditions, Monte
Carlo simulation studies are carried out to analyze the empirical
performance of the logistic regression estimator under the various
sampling designs considered in this paper. Results derived from
Monte Carlo simulation studies indicate that the logistic regression
estimator can be more accurate than the customary estimator under
the various sampling designs considered in this paper. The stratified
sampling design can also provide more accurate results.
Abstract: The measured data obtained from sensors in
continuous monitoring of civil structures are mainly used for modal
identification and damage detection. Therefore, when modal
identification analysis is carried out the quality in the identification of
the modes will highly influence the damage detection results. It is
also widely recognized that the usefulness of the measured data used
for modal identification and damage detection is significantly
influenced by the number and locations of sensors. The objective of
this study is the numerical implementation of two widely known
optimum sensor placement methods in beam-like structures.
Abstract: This paper reports the empirical investigation on the
effect of involuntary displacement of indigenous tribes on their sociocultural
and food practices. A descriptive research design using the
quantitative approach was applied and individual of indigenous tribes
as unit of analysis. Through a self-administered survey among two
selected Malaysia indigenous tribes, one hundred fifty questionnaires
were successfully collected. With the application of descriptive and
inferential statistic some useful insights pertaining to the issue
investigated was significantly obtained. Findings revealed that
improvement on the socio-culture, economy and knowledge is
apparent on the indigenous groups’ resulted from displacement
program. Displacement also has a slight impact on indigenous
groups’ food practices. These positive indications provide significant
implications, not only for the indigenous groups themselves, but also
for the responsible authorities.
Abstract: In order to investigate the effect of Plant Growth
Promoting Rhizobacteria (PGPR) and rhizobium bacteria on grain
yield and some agronomic traits of mungbean (Vigna radiate L.), an
experiment was carried out based on randomized complete block
design with three replications in Malekshahi, Ilam province, Iran
during 2012-2013 cropping season. Experimental treatments
consisted of control treatment, inoculation with rhizobium bacteria,
rhizobium bacteria and Azotobacter, rhizobium bacteria and
Azospirillum, rhizobium bacteria and Pseudomonas, rhizobium
bacteria, Azotobacter and Azospirillum, rhizobium bacteria,
Azotobacter and Pseudomonas, rhizobium bacteria, Azospirillum and
Pseudomonas and rhizobium bacteria, Azotobacter, Azospirillum and
Pseudomonas. The results showed that the effect of PGPR and
rhizobium bacteria were significant affect on grain and its
components in mungbean plant. Grain yield significantly increased
by PGPR and rhizobium bacteria, so that the maximum grain yield
was obtained from rhizobium bacteria + Azospirillum +
Pseudomonas with the amount of 2287 kg.ha-1 as compared to
control treatment. Excessive application of chemical fertilizers causes
environmental and economic problems. That is, the overfertilization
of P and N leads to pollution due to soil erosion and runoff water, so
the use of PGPR and rhizobium bacteria can be justified due to
reduce input costs, increase in grain yield and environmental friendly.
Abstract: This paper aims at introducing finite automata theory,
the different ways to describe regular languages and create a program
to implement the subset construction algorithms to convert
nondeterministic finite automata (NFA) to deterministic finite
automata (DFA). This program is written in c++ programming
language. The program reads FA 5tuples from text file and then
classifies it into either DFA or NFA. For DFA, the program will read
the string w and decide whether it is acceptable or not. If accepted, the
program will save the tracking path and point it out. On the other hand,
when the automation is NFA, the program will change the Automation
to DFA so that it is easy to track and it can decide whether the w exists
in the regular language or not.
Abstract: Opportunistic routing is used, where the network has
the features like dynamic topology changes and intermittent network
connectivity. In Delay tolerant network or Disruption tolerant
network opportunistic forwarding technique is widely used. The key
idea of opportunistic routing is selecting forwarding nodes to forward
data packets and coordination among these nodes to avoid duplicate
transmissions. This paper gives the analysis of pros and cons of
various opportunistic routing techniques used in MANET.
