Abstract: The influence of humidity and low temperature on the α- amylase activity and isoenzyme composition of grains of different wheat varieties have been studied. The identified samples of varieties have significant difference in the level of enzyme induction under the impact of high humidity and low temperature. It is proposed to use this methodological approach for testing genotypes and wheat breeding lines for resistance to pre-harvest sprouting (PHS).
Abstract: Various mechanisms providing mutual exclusion and
thread synchronization can be used to support parallel processing
within a single computer. Instead of using locks, semaphores, barriers
or other traditional approaches in this paper we focus on alternative
ways for making better use of modern multithreaded architectures
and preparing hash tables for concurrent accesses. Hash structures
will be used to demonstrate and compare two entirely different
approaches (rule based cooperation and hardware synchronization
support) to an efficient parallel implementation using traditional
locks. Comparison includes implementation details, performance
ranking and scalability issues. We aim at understanding the effects
the parallelization schemes have on the execution environment with
special focus on the memory system and memory access
characteristics.
Abstract: Whilst there is growing evidence that activity across the lifespan is beneficial for improved health, there are also many changes involved with the aging process and subsequently the potential for reduced indices of health. Data gathered on a subsample of 535 football code athletes, aged 31-72 yrs ( = 47.4, s = ±7.1), competing at the Sydney World Masters Games (2009) demonstrated a significantly (p < 0.001), reduced classification of obesity using Body Mass Index (BMI) when compared to the general Australian population. This evidence of improved classification in one index of health (BMI < 30) for master athletes (when compared to the general population) implies there are either improved levels of this index of health due to adherence to sport or possibly the reduced BMI is advantageous and contributes to this cohort adhering (or being attracted) to masters sport. Demonstration of this proportionately under-investigated World Masters Games population having improved health over the general population is of particular interest.
Abstract: Observations and long-term trends indicate that climate
change impacts would be significant and affects Taiwan directly and
severely. Taiwan engages not only in mitigation, but also in adaptation.
However, there are cognitive gaps on adaptation between government
and populace. Besides, a vision of zero-carbon and renewable energy
100% will be adopted in future. Therefore, the objectives of this
article are to 1) hold a National Forum for knowing differences
between the strategies of zero-carbon and renewable energy 100% and
cognitions of general populace, and 2) plan a clear roadmap for the
vision, strategy, and measures. In this forum, we set 5 group topics, 5
presumed themes, and issues mentioned review for concluding the
critical issues. Finally, there are 4 strategies and 14 critical issues
which correlate with the vision and strategy of government and the
cognition of the general populace.
Abstract: Wireless LAN (WLAN) access in public hotspot areas
becomes popular in the recent years. Since more and more multimedia
information is available in the Internet, there is an increasing demand
for accessing multimedia information through WLAN hotspots.
Currently, the bandwidth offered by an IEEE 802.11 WLAN cannot
afford many simultaneous real-time video accesses. A possible way to
increase the offered bandwidth in a hotspot is the use of multiple access
points (APs). However, a mobile station is usually connected to the
WLAN AP with the strongest received signal strength indicator (RSSI).
The total consumed bandwidth cannot be fairly allocated among those
APs. In this paper, we will propose an effective load-balancing scheme
via the support of the IAPP and SNMP in APs. The proposed scheme is
an open solution and doesn-t need any changes in both wireless stations
and APs. This makes load balancing possible in WLAN hotspots,
where a variety of heterogeneous mobile devices are employed.
Abstract: The flow field in a centrifugal fan is highly complex
with flow reversal taking place on the suction side of impeller and
diffuser vanes. Generally performance of the centrifugal fan could be
enhanced by judiciously introducing splitter vanes so as to improve
the diffusion process. An extensive numerical whole field analysis on
the effect of splitter vanes placed in discrete regions of suspected
separation points is possible using CFD. This paper examines the
effect of splitter vanes corresponding to various geometrical
locations on the impeller and diffuser. The analysis shows that the
splitter vanes located near the diffuser exit improves the static
pressure recovery across the diffusing domain to a larger extent. Also
it is found that splitter vanes located at the impeller trailing edge and
diffuser leading edge at the mid-span of the circumferential distance
between the blades show a marginal improvement in the static
pressure recovery across the fan. However, splitters provided near to
the suction side of the impeller trailing edge (25% of the
circumferential gap between the impeller blades towards the suction
side), adversely affect the static pressure recovery of the fan.
Abstract: This paper studies the design of a simple constellation
precoding for a multiple-input multiple-output orthogonal frequency
division multiplexing (MIMO-OFDM) system over Rayleigh fading
channels where OFDM is used to keep the diversity replicas orthogonal
and reduce ISI effects. A multi-user environment with K synchronous
co-channel users is considered. The proposed scheme provides
a bandwidth efficient transmission for individual users by increasing
the system throughput. In comparison with the existing coded
MIMO-OFDM schemes, the precoding technique is designed under
the consideration of its low implementation complexity while providing
a comparable error performance to the existing schemes.
Analytic and simulation results have been presented to show the distinguished
error performance.
Abstract: Composite of Celatom-ZeoliteY (Cel-ZY) was used to
remove cobalt ion from an aqueous solution using batch mode.
ZeoliteY has successfully superimposed on Celatom FW-14 surface
using hydrothermal treatment .The product was synthesized as a
novel of hierarchical porous material. It was observed from the
results that Cel-ZY has higher ability to remove cobalt ions than the
pure ZeoliteY powder (PZY) synthesized under the same conditions.
Several parameters were studied in this project to investigate the
effect of removal cobalt ion such as pH and initial cobalt
concentration. It was clearly observed that the uptake of cobalt ions
was affected with increase these parameters. The results proved that
the product can be used effectively to remove Co2+ ions from
wastewater as an environmentally friendly alternative.
Abstract: In this study, the sorption of Malachite green (MG) on Hydrilla verticillata biomass, a submerged aquatic plant, was investigated in a batch system. The effects of operating parameters such as temperature, adsorbent dosage, contact time, adsorbent size, and agitation speed on the sorption of Malachite green were analyzed using response surface methodology (RSM). The proposed quadratic model for central composite design (CCD) fitted very well to the experimental data that it could be used to navigate the design space according to ANOVA results. The optimum sorption conditions were determined as temperature - 43.5oC, adsorbent dosage - 0.26g, contact time - 200min, adsorbent size - 0.205mm (65mesh), and agitation speed - 230rpm. The Langmuir and Freundlich isotherm models were applied to the equilibrium data. The maximum monolayer coverage capacity of Hydrilla verticillata biomass for MG was found to be 91.97 mg/g at an initial pH 8.0 indicating that the optimum sorption initial pH. The external and intra particle diffusion models were also applied to sorption data of Hydrilla verticillata biomass with MG, and it was found that both the external diffusion as well as intra particle diffusion contributes to the actual sorption process. The pseudo-second order kinetic model described the MG sorption process with a good fitting.
Abstract: The rate of production of main products of the Fischer-Tropsch reactions over Fe/HZSM5 bifunctional catalyst in a fixed bed reactor is investigated at a broad range of temperature, pressure, space velocity, H2/CO feed molar ratio and CO2, CH4 and water flow rates. Model discrimination and parameter estimation were performed according to the integral method of kinetic analysis. Due to lack of mechanism development for Fisher – Tropsch Synthesis on bifunctional catalysts, 26 different models were tested and the best model is selected. Comprehensive one and two dimensional heterogeneous reactor models are developed to simulate the performance of fixed-bed Fischer – Tropsch reactors. To reduce computational time for optimization purposes, an Artificial Feed Forward Neural Network (AFFNN) has been used to describe intra particle mass and heat transfer diffusion in the catalyst pellet. It is seen that products' reaction rates have direct relation with H2 partial pressure and reverse relation with CO partial pressure. The results show that the hybrid model has good agreement with rigorous mechanistic model, favoring that the hybrid model is about 25-30 times faster.

Abstract: A novel interpolation scheme to extend usable spectrum
and upconvert in high performance D/A converters is addressed in this
paper. By adjusting the pulse width of cycle and the production circuit
of code, the expansion code is a null code or complementary code that
is interpolation process. What the times and codes of interpolation
decide DAC works in one of a normal mode or multi-mixer mode
so that convert the input digital data signal into normal signal or a
mixed analog signal having a mixer frequency that is higher than the
data frequency. Simulation results show that the novel scheme and
apparatus most extend the usable frequency spectrum into fifth to
sixth Nyquist zone beyond conventional DACs.
Abstract: In this study, mechanically alloyed Al 2024 powder is
densified by conventional sintering and by equal channel angular
pressing (ECAP) with and without back pressure. The powder was
encapsulated in an aluminium can for consolidation through ECAP.
The properties obtained in the compacts by conventional sintering
route and by ECAP are compared. The effect of conventional
sintering and ECAP on consolidation behaviour of powder,
microstructure, density and hardness is discussed. Room temperature
back pressure aided ECAP results in nearly full denser (97% of its
theoretical density) compact at room temperature. NanoIndentation
technique was used to determine the modulus of the consolidated
compacts.
Abstract: Composting is the process in which municipal solid
waste (MSW) and other organic waste materials such as biosolids
and manures are decomposed through the action of bacteria and other
microorganisms into a stable granular material which, applied to
land, as soil conditioner. Microorganisms, especially those that are
able to degrade polymeric organic material have a key role in speed
up this process. The aim of this study has been established to
isolation of microorganisms with high ability to production
extracellular enzymes for degradation of natural polymers that are
exists in MSW for decreasing time of degradation phase. Our
experimental study for isolation designed in two phases: in first
phase we isolated degrading microorganism with selected media that
consist a special natural polymer such as cellulose, starch, lipids and
etc as sole source of carbon. In second phase we selected
microorganism that had high degrading enzyme production with
enzymatic assay for seed production. However, our findings in pilot
scale have indicated that usage of this microbial consortium had high
efficiency for decreasing degradation phase.
Abstract: Nowadays, the rapid development of multimedia
and internet allows for wide distribution of digital media data.
It becomes much easier to edit, modify and duplicate digital
information Besides that, digital documents are also easy to
copy and distribute, therefore it will be faced by many
threatens. It-s a big security and privacy issue with the large
flood of information and the development of the digital
format, it become necessary to find appropriate protection
because of the significance, accuracy and sensitivity of the
information. Nowadays protection system classified with more
specific as hiding information, encryption information, and
combination between hiding and encryption to increase information
security, the strength of the information hiding science is due to the
non-existence of standard algorithms to be used in hiding secret
messages. Also there is randomness in hiding methods such as
combining several media (covers) with different methods to pass a
secret message. In addition, there are no formal methods to be
followed to discover the hidden data. For this reason, the task of this
research becomes difficult. In this paper, a new system of information
hiding is presented. The proposed system aim to hidden information
(data file) in any execution file (EXE) and to detect the hidden file
and we will see implementation of steganography system which
embeds information in an execution file. (EXE) files have been
investigated. The system tries to find a solution to the size of the
cover file and making it undetectable by anti-virus software. The
system includes two main functions; first is the hiding of the
information in a Portable Executable File (EXE), through the
execution of four process (specify the cover file, specify the
information file, encryption of the information, and hiding the
information) and the second function is the extraction of the hiding
information through three process (specify the steno file, extract the
information, and decryption of the information). The system has
achieved the main goals, such as make the relation of the size of the
cover file and the size of information independent and the result file
does not make any conflict with anti-virus software.
Abstract: The world is moving rapidly toward the deployment
of information and communication systems. Nowadays, computing
systems with their fast growth are found everywhere and one of the main challenges for these systems is increasing attacks and security threats against them. Thus, capturing, analyzing and verifying security requirements becomes a very important activity in
development process of computing systems, specially in developing
systems such as banking, military and e-business systems. For
developing every system, a process model which includes a process,
methods and tools is chosen. The Rational Unified Process (RUP) is
one of the most popular and complete process models which is used
by developers in recent years. This process model should be extended to be used in developing secure software systems. In this
paper, the Requirement Discipline of RUP is extended to improve RUP for developing secure software systems. These proposed extensions are adding and integrating a number of Activities, Roles,
and Artifacts to RUP in order to capture, document and model threats
and security requirements of system. These extensions introduce a
group of clear and stepwise activities to developers. By following these activities, developers assure that security requirements are
captured and modeled. These models are used in design, implementation and test activitie
Abstract: This paper compares planning results of the electricity and water generation inventory up to year 2030 in the State of
Kuwait. Currently, the generation inventory consists of oil and gas fired technologies only. The planning study considers two main cases. The first case, Reference case, examines a generation inventory based on oil and gas fired generation technologies only.
The second case examines the inclusion of renewables as part of the generation inventory under two scenarios. In the first scenario, Ref-RE, renewable build-out is based on optimum economic performance
of overall generation system. Result shows that the optimum installed
renewable capacity with electric energy generation of 11% . In the second scenario, Ref-RE20, the renewable capacity build-out is
forced to provide 20% of electric energy by 2030. The respective energy systems costs of Reference, Ref-RE and Ref-RE20 case
scenarios reach US dollar 24, 10 and 14 billion annually in 2030.
Abstract: This paper studies a vital issue in wireless
communications, which is the transmission of images over Wireless
Personal Area Networks (WPANs) through the Bluetooth network. It
presents a simple method to improve the efficiency of error control
code of old Bluetooth versions over mobile WPANs through
Interleaved Error Control Code (IECC) technique. The encoded
packets are interleaved by simple block interleaver. Also, the paper
presents a chaotic interleaving scheme as a tool against bursts of
errors which depends on the chaotic Baker map. Also, the paper
proposes using the chaotic interleaver instead of traditional block
interleaver with Forward Error Control (FEC) scheme. A comparison
study between the proposed and standard techniques for image
transmission over a correlated fading channel is presented.
Simulation results reveal the superiority of the proposed chaotic
interleaving scheme to other schemes. Also, the superiority of FEC
with proposed chaotic interleaver to the conventional interleavers
with enhancing the security level with chaotic interleaving packetby-
packet basis.
Abstract: Calcium is a vital second messenger used in signal transduction. Calcium controls secretion, cell movement, muscular contraction, cell differentiation, ciliary beating and so on. Two theories have been used to simplify the system of reaction-diffusion equations of calcium into a single equation. One is excess buffer approximation (EBA) which assumes that mobile buffer is present in excess and cannot be saturated. The other is rapid buffer approximation (RBA), which assumes that calcium binding to buffer is rapid compared to calcium diffusion rate. In the present work, attempt has been made to develop a model for calcium diffusion under excess buffer approximation in neuron cells. This model incorporates the effect of [Na+] influx on [Ca2+] diffusion, variable calcium and sodium sources, sodium-calcium exchange protein, Sarcolemmal Calcium ATPase pump, sodium and calcium channels. The proposed mathematical model leads to a system of partial differential equations which have been solved numerically using Forward Time Centered Space (FTCS) approach. The numerical results have been used to study the relationships among different types of parameters such as buffer concentration, association rate, calcium permeability.
Abstract: Use of fly ash as a supplementary cementing material
in large volumes can bring both technological and economic benefits
for concrete industry. In this investigation mix proportions for high
volume fly ash concrete were determined at cement replacement
levels of 50%, 55%, 60% and 65% with low calcium fly ash. Flexural
and compressive strengths of different mixes were measured at ages
of 7, 28 and 90 days. Flexural strength of composite section prepared
from pavement quality and lean high volume fly ash concrete was
determined at the age of 28 days. High volume fly ash concrete mixes
exhibited higher rate of strength gain and age factors than
corresponding reference concrete mixes. The optimum cement
replacement level for pavement quality concrete was found to be
60%. The consideration of bond between pavement quality and lean
of high volume fly ash concrete will be beneficial in design of rigid
pavements.
