Abstract: Construction site safety in China has aroused
comprehensive concern all over the world. It is imperative to
investigate the main causes of poor construction site safety. This paper
divides all the causes into four aspects, namely the factors of workers,
object, environment and management and sets up the accident causes
element system based on Delphi Method. This is followed by the
application of structural equation modeling to examine the importance
of each aspect of causes from the standpoints of different roles related
to the construction respectively. The results indicate that all the four
aspects of factors are in need of improvement, and different roles have
different ideas considering the priority of those factors. The paper has
instructive significance for the practitioners to take measures to
improve construction site safety in China accordingly.
Abstract: This research aims at development of the Multiple
Intelligences Measurement of Elementary Students. The structural
accuracy test and normality establishment are based on the Multiple
Intelligences Theory of Gardner. This theory consists of eight aspects
namely linguistics, logic and mathematics, visual-spatial relations,
body and movement, music, human relations, self-realization/selfunderstanding
and nature. The sample used in this research consists
of elementary school students (aged between 5-11 years). The size of
the sample group was determined by Yamane Table. The group has
2,504 students. Multistage Sampling was used. Basic statistical
analysis and construct validity testing were done using confirmatory
factor analysis. The research can be summarized as follows; 1.
Multiple Intelligences Measurement consisting of 120 items is
content-accurate. Internal consistent reliability according to the
method of Kuder-Richardson of the whole Multiple Intelligences
Measurement equals .91. The difficulty of the measurement test is
between .39-.83. Discrimination is between .21-.85. 2). The Multiple
Intelligences Measurement has construct validity in a good range,
that is 8 components and all 120 test items have statistical
significance level at .01. Chi-square value equals 4357.7; p=.00 at the
degree of freedom of 244 and Goodness of Fit Index equals 1.00.
Adjusted Goodness of Fit Index equals .92. Comparative Fit Index
(CFI) equals .68. Root Mean Squared Residual (RMR) equals 0.064
and Root Mean Square Error of Approximation equals 0.82. 3). The
normality of the Multiple Intelligences Measurement is categorized
into 3 levels. Those with high intelligence are those with percentiles
of more than 78. Those with moderate/medium intelligence are those
with percentiles between 24 and 77.9. Those with low intelligence
are those with percentiles from 23.9 downwards.
Abstract: Human immunodeficiency virus infection and
acquired immunodeficiency syndrome is a global pandemic with
cases reporting from virtually every country and continues to be a
common infection in developing country like India.
Microalbuminuria is a manifestation of human immunodeficiency
virus associated nephropathy. Therefore, microalbuminuria may be
an early marker of human immunodeficiency virus associated
nephropathy, and screening for its presence may be beneficial. A
strikingly high prevalence of microalbuminuria among human
immunodeficiency virus infected patients has been described in
various studies. Risk factors for clinically significant proteinuria
include African - American race, higher human immunodeficiency
virus ribonucleic acid level and lower CD4 lymphocyte count. The
cardiovascular risk factors of increased systolic blood pressure and
increase fasting blood sugar level are strongly associated with
microalbuminuria in human immunodeficiency virus patient. These
results suggest that microalbuminuria may be a sign of current
endothelial dysfunction and micro-vascular disease and there is
substantial risk of future cardiovascular disease events. Positive
contributing factors include early kidney disease such as human
immunodeficiency virus associated nephropathy, a marker of end
organ damage related to co morbidities of diabetes or hypertension,
or more diffuse endothelial cells dysfunction. Nevertheless after
adjustment for non human immunodeficiency virus factors, human
immunodeficiency virus itself is a major risk factor. The presence of
human immunodeficiency virus infection is independent risk to
develop microalbuminuria in human immunodeficiency virus patient.
Cardiovascular risk factors appeared to be stronger predictors of
microalbuminuria than markers of human immunodeficiency virus
severity person with human immunodeficiency virus infection and
microalbuminuria therefore appear to potentially bear the burden of
two separate damage related to known vascular end organ damage
related to know vascular risk factors, and human immunodeficiency
virus specific processes such as the direct viral infection of kidney
cells. The higher prevalence of microalbuminuria among the human
immunodeficiency virus infected could be harbinger of future
increased risks of both kidney and cardiovascular disease. Further
study defining the prognostic significance of microalbuminuria
among human immunodeficiency virus infected persons will be
essential. Microalbuminuria seems to be a predictor of cardiovascular
disease in diabetic and non diabetic subjects, hence it can also be
used for early detection of micro vascular disease in human
immunodeficiency virus positive patients, thus can help to diagnose
the disease at the earliest.
Abstract: Self-efficacy, self-reliance, and motivation were
examined in a quasi-experimental study with 178 sophomore
university students. Participants used an interactive cardiovascular
anatomy and physiology CD-ROM, and completed a 15-item
questionnaire. Reliability of the questionnaire was established using
Cronbach-s alpha. Post-tests and course grades were examined using
a t-test, demonstrating no significance. Results of an item-to-item
analysis of the questionnaire showed overall satisfaction with the
teaching methodology and varied results for self-efficacy, selfreliance,
and motivation. Kendall-s Tau was calculated for all items
in the questionnaire.

Abstract: In this paper, a class of recurrent neural networks (RNNs) with variable delays are studied on almost periodic time scales, some sufficient conditions are established for the existence and global exponential stability of the almost periodic solution. These results have important leading significance in designs and applications of RNNs. Finally, two examples and numerical simulations are presented to illustrate the feasibility and effectiveness of the results.
Abstract: This research studied recycled wastes by Recyclable Material Bank project of 17 universities of Thailand for evaluation of reducing greenhouse gasses emission compared with landfilling activity during January 2011 to December 2011. The results showed that the projects collected total amount of recyclable wastes about 1,626.917 metric ton. The office paper has the largest amount among these recycled wastes (55.61 % of total recycled wastes). Groups of recycled waste can be prioritized from high to low according to their amount as paper, plastic, glass, mixed recyclables and metal, respectively. The project reduced greenhouse gasses emission equivalent to about 5,263.481 metric ton of carbon dioxide. The most significant recycled waste that affects the reduction of greenhouse gasses emission is office paper which is 73.45% of total reduced greenhouse gasses emission. According to amount of reduced greenhouse gasses emission, groups of recycled waste can be prioritized from high to low significances as paper, plastic, metal, mixed recyclables and glass, respectively.
Abstract: The purpose of determining impact significance is to
place value on impacts. Environmental impact assessment review is a
process that judges whether impact significance is acceptable or not in
accordance with the scientific facts regarding environmental,
ecological and socio-economical impacts described in environmental
impact statements (EIS) or environmental impact assessment reports
(EIAR). The first aim of this paper is to summarize the criteria of
significance evaluation from the past review results and accordingly
utilize fuzzy logic to incorporate these criteria into scientific facts. The
second aim is to employ data mining technique to construct an EIS or
EIAR prediction model for reviewing results which can assist
developers to prepare and revise better environmental management
plans in advance. The validity of the previous prediction model
proposed by authors in 2009 is 92.7%. The enhanced validity in this
study can attain 100.0%.
Abstract: Many new experimental films which were free from conventional movie forms have appeared since Nubellbak Movement in the late 1950s. Forty years after the movement started, on March 13th, 1995, on the 100th anniversary of the birth of film, the declaration called Dogme 95, was issued in Copenhagen, Denmark. It aimed to create a new style of avant-garde film, and showed a tendency toward being anti-Hollywood and anti-genre, which were against the highly popular Hollywood trend of movies based on large-scale investment. The main idea of Dogme 95 is the opposition to 'the writer's doctrine' that a film should be the artist's individual work and to 'the overuse of technology' in film. The key figures declared ten principles called 'Vow of Chastity', by which new movie forms were to be produced. Interview (2000), directed by Byunhyuk, was made in 2000, five years after Dogme 95 was declared. This movie was dedicated as the first Asian Dogme. This study will survey the relationship between Korean film and the Vow of Chastity through the Korean films released in theaters from a viewpoint of technology and content. It also will call attention to its effects on and significance to Korean film in modern society.
Abstract: Recommender systems are usually regarded as an
important marketing tool in the e-commerce. They use important
information about users to facilitate accurate recommendation. The
information includes user context such as location, time and interest
for personalization of mobile users. We can easily collect information
about location and time because mobile devices communicate with the
base station of the service provider. However, information about user
interest can-t be easily collected because user interest can not be
captured automatically without user-s approval process. User interest
usually represented as a need. In this study, we classify needs into two
types according to prior research. This study investigates the
usefulness of data mining techniques for classifying user need type for
recommendation systems. We employ several data mining techniques
including artificial neural networks, decision trees, case-based
reasoning, and multivariate discriminant analysis. Experimental
results show that CHAID algorithm outperforms other models for
classifying user need type. This study performs McNemar test to
examine the statistical significance of the differences of classification
results. The results of McNemar test also show that CHAID performs
better than the other models with statistical significance.
Abstract: This paper is concerned with the permanence and extinction problem of enterprises cluster constituted by m satellite enterprises and a dominant enterprise. We present the model involving impulsive effect based on ecology theory, which effectively describe the competition and cooperation of enterprises cluster in real economic environment. Applying comparison theorem of impulsive differential equation, we establish sufficient conditions which ultimately affect the fate of enterprises: permanence, extinction, and co-existence. Finally, we present numerical examples to explain the economical significance of mathematical results.
Abstract: Maintenance costs incurred on building differs. The
difference can be as results of the types, functions, age, building
health index, size, form height, location and complexity of the
building. These are contributing to the difficulty in maintenance
development of deterministic maintenance cost model. This paper is
concerns with reporting the preliminary findings on the creation of
building maintenance cost distributions for universities in Malaysia.
This study is triggered by the need to provide guides on maintenance
costs distributions for decision making. For this purpose, a survey
questionnaire was conducted to investigate the distribution of
maintenance costs in the universities. Altogether, responses were
received from twenty universities comprising both private and
publicly owned. The research found that engineering services,
roofing and finishes were the elements contributing the larger
segment of the maintenance costs. Furthermore, the study indicates
the significance of maintenance cost distribution as decision making
tool towards maintenance management.
Abstract: This paper is to explore the relationship and the level
of stock market integration of the Asian countries, primarily
concentrating on Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, and South Korea,
with the world from January 1997 to December 2009. The degree of
short-run and long-run stock market integration of those Asian
countries are analyzed in order to determine the significance of series
of regional and world financial crises, liberalization policies and
other financial reforms in influencing the level of stock market
integration. To test for cointegration, this paper applies coefficient
correlation, univariate regression analyses, cointegration tests, and
vector autoregressive models (VAR) by using the four Asian stock
markets main indices and the MSCI World index. The empirical
findings from this work reveal that there is no long-run stock market
integration for the four countries and the world market. However,
there is short run integration.
Abstract: The inability to implement the principles of good
corporate governance (GCG) as demonstrated in the surveys is due to
a number of constraints which can be classified into three; namely internal constraints, external constraints, and constraints coming
from the structure of ownership. The issues in the internal constraints
mentioned are related to the function of several elements of the company. As a business organization, corporation is unable to
achieve its goal to successfully implement GCG principles since it is
not support by its internal elements- functions. Two of several numbers of internal elements of a company are ethical work climate
and leadership style of the top management.
To prove the correlation between internal function of organization
(in this case ethical work climate and transformational leadership)
and the successful implementation of GCG principles, this study
proposes two hypotheses to be empirically tested on thirty surveyed organizations; eleven of which are state-owned companies and
nineteen are private companies. These thirty corporations are listed in
the Jakarta Stock Exchange. All state-owned companies in the
samples are those which have been privatized.
The research showed that internal function of organization give
support to the successful implementation of GCG principle. In this
research we can prove that : (i) ethical work climate has positive
significance of correlation with the successful implementation of
social awareness principle (one of principles on GCG) and, (ii) only
at the state-owned companies, transformational leadership have
positive significance effect to forming the ethical work climate.
Abstract: The successful use of CDMA technology is based on
the construction of large families of encoding sequences with good
correlation properties. This paper discusses PN sequence generation
based on Residue Arithmetic with an effort to improve the performance
of existing interference-limited CDMA technology for mobile
cellular systems. All spreading codes with residual number system
proposed earlier did not consider external interferences, multipath
propagation, Doppler effect etc. In literature the use of residual
arithmetic in DS-CDMA was restricted to encoding of already spread
sequence; where spreading of sequence is done by some existing
techniques. The novelty of this paper is the use of residual number
system in generation of the PN sequences which is used to spread
the message signal. The significance of cross-correlation factor in
alleviating multi-access interference is also discussed. The RNS based
PN sequence has superior performance than most of the existing
codes that are widely used in DS-CDMA applications. Simulation
results suggest that the performance of the proposed system is
superior to many existing systems.
Abstract: Significant changes in oil and gas drilling have
emphasized the need to verify the integrity and reliability of drill
stem components. Defects are inevitable in cast components,
regardless of application; but if these defects go undetected, any
severe defect could cause down-hole failure.
One such defect is shrinkage porosity. Castings with lower level
shrinkage porosity (CB levels 1 and 2) have scattered pores and do
not occupy large volumes; so pressure testing and helium leak testing
(HLT) are sufficient for qualifying the castings. However, castings
with shrinkage porosity of CB level 3 and higher, behave erratically
under pressure testing and HLT making these techniques insufficient
for evaluating the castings- integrity.
This paper presents a case study to highlight how the radiography
technique is much more effective than pressure testing and HLT.
Abstract: In this paper, we apply the FM methodology to the
cross-section of Romanian-listed common stocks and investigate the
explanatory power of market beta on the cross-section of commons
stock returns from Bucharest Stock Exchange. Various assumptions
are empirically tested, such us linearity, market efficiency, the “no
systematic effect of non-beta risk" hypothesis or the positive
expected risk-return trade-off hypothesis. We find that the Romanian
stock market shows the same properties as the other emerging
markets in terms of efficiency and significance of the linear riskreturn
models. Our analysis included weekly returns from January
2002 until May 2010 and the portfolio formation, estimation and
testing was performed in a rolling manner using 51 observations (one
year) for each stage of the analysis.
Abstract: Many measures have been proposed for machine
translation evaluation (MTE) while little research has been done on
the performance of MTE methods. This paper is an effort for MTE
performance analysis. A general frame is proposed for the description
of the MTE measure and the test suite, including whether the
automatic measure is consistent with human evaluation, whether
different results from various measures or test suites are consistent,
whether the content of the test suite is suitable for performance
evaluation, the degree of difficulty of the test suite and its influence
on the MTE, the relationship of MTE result significance and the size
of the test suite, etc. For a better clarification of the frame, several
experiment results are analyzed relating human evaluation, BLEU
evaluation, and typological MTE. A visualization method is
introduced for better presentation of the results. The study aims for
aid in construction of test suite and method selection in MTE
practice.
Abstract: To deal with random delays in Networked Control System (NCS), Modified Fuzzy PID Controller is introduced in this paper to implement real-time control adaptively. Via adjusting the control signal dynamically, the system performance is improved. In this paper, the design process and the ultimate simulation results are represented. Finally, examples and corresponding comparisons prove the significance of this method.
Abstract: Enzymatic hydrolysis of starch from natural sources
finds potential application in commercial production of alcoholic
beverage and bioethanol. In this study the effect of starch
concentration, temperature, time and enzyme concentration were
studied and optimized for hydrolysis of cassava (Manihot esculenta)
starch powder (of mesh 80/120) into glucose syrup by immobilized
(using Polyacrylamide gel) a-amylase using central composite
design. The experimental result on enzymatic hydrolysis of cassava
starch was subjected to multiple linear regression analysis using
MINITAB 14 software. Positive linear effect of starch concentration,
enzyme concentration and time was observed on hydrolysis of
cassava starch by a-amylase. The statistical significance of the model
was validated by F-test for analysis of variance (p < 0.01). The
optimum value of starch concentration temperature, time and enzyme
concentration were found to be 4.5% (w/v), 45oC, 150 min, and 1%
(w/v) enzyme. The maximum glucose yield at optimum condition
was 5.17 mg/mL.
