Abstract: The shortest path routing problem is a multiobjective nonlinear optimization problem with constraints. This problem has been addressed by considering Quality of service parameters, delay and cost objectives separately or as a weighted sum of both objectives. Multiobjective evolutionary algorithms can find multiple pareto-optimal solutions in one single run and this ability makes them attractive for solving problems with multiple and conflicting objectives. This paper uses an elitist multiobjective evolutionary algorithm based on the Non-dominated Sorting Genetic Algorithm (NSGA), for solving the dynamic shortest path routing problem in computer networks. A priority-based encoding scheme is proposed for population initialization. Elitism ensures that the best solution does not deteriorate in the next generations. Results for a sample test network have been presented to demonstrate the capabilities of the proposed approach to generate well-distributed pareto-optimal solutions of dynamic routing problem in one single run. The results obtained by NSGA are compared with single objective weighting factor method for which Genetic Algorithm (GA) was applied.
Abstract: There have been many variations of technologies that helped educators in teaching & learning. From the past research it is evident that Information Technology significantly increases student participation and interactivity in the classrooms. This research started with a aim to find whether adoption of Wi-Fi environment by Malaysian Higher Educational Institutions (HEI) can benefit students and staff equally. The study was carried out in HEI-s of Klang Valley, Malaysia and the data is gathered through paper based surveys. A sample size of 237 units were randomly selected from 5 higher educational institutions in the Klang Valley using the Stratified Random sampling method and from the analysis of the data, it was found that the implementation of wireless technologies in HEIs have created lot of opportunities and also challenges.
Abstract: In communication networks where communication nodes are connected with finite capacity transmission links, the packet inter-arrival times are strongly correlated with the packet length and the link capacity (or the packet service time). Such correlation affects the system performance significantly, but little attention has been paid to this issue. In this paper, we propose a mathematical framework to study the impact of the correlation between the packet service times and the packet inter-arrival times on system performance. With our mathematical model, we analyze the system performance, e.g., the unfinished work of the system, and show that the correlation affects the system performance significantly. Some numerical examples are also provided.
Abstract: In this study, the adhesion of ice to solid substrates
with different surface properties is compared. Clear ice, similar to
atmospheric in-flight icing encounters, is accreted on the different
substrates under controlled conditions. The ice adhesion behavior is
investigated by means of a dynamic vibration testing technique with
an electromagnetic shaker initiating ice de-bonding in the interface
between the substrate and the ice. The results of the experiments
reveal that the affinity for ice accretion is significantly influenced by
the water contact angle of the respective sample.
Abstract: In this paper, the application of sliding-mode control to a permanent-magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) is presented. The control design is based on a generic mathematical model of the motor. Some dynamics of the motor and of the power amplification stage remain unmodelled. This model uncertainty is estimated in realtime. The estimation is based on the differentiation of measured signals using the ideas of robust exact differentiator (RED). The control law is implemented on an industrial servo drive. Simulations and experimental results are presented and compared to the same control strategy without uncertainty estimation. It turns out that the proposed concept is superior to the same control strategy without uncertainty estimation especially in the case of non-smooth reference signals.
Abstract: The influence of flakes from biologically activated
hull-less barley grain and malt extract on chemical composition of
yoghurt was studied.
Pasteurized milk, freeze-dried yoghurt culture YF-L811 (Chr.
Hansen, Denmark), flakes from biologically activated hull-less
barley grain (Latvia) and malt extract (Ilgezeem, Latvia) were used
for experiments. Yoghurt samples with and without flakes from
biologically activated hull-less barley grain and malt extract were
analyzed for content of total solids, total proteins, fats, amino acids
and riboflavin.
The addition of flakes from biologically activated hull-less barley
grain and malt extract allowed increase of nutritional value of
yoghurt samples. There was obtained the increase of total proteins
(p>0.05) and the decrease of fat (p>0.05). The presence of flakes
from biologically activated hull-less barley grain and malt extract in
yoghurt samples provided significant increase of amino acids amount

Abstract: MANEMO is the integration of Network Mobility
(NEMO) and Mobile Ad Hoc Network (MANET). A MANEMO
node has an interface to both a MANET and NEMO network, and
therefore should choose the optimal interface for packet delivery,
however such a handover between interfaces will introduce packet
loss. We define the steps necessary for a MANEMO handover,
using Mobile IP and NEMO to signal the new binding to the
relevant Home Agent(s). The handover steps aim to minimize the
packet loss by avoiding waiting for Duplicate Address Detection
and Neighbour Unreachability Detection. We present expressions for
handover delay and packet loss, and then use numerical examples to
evaluate a MANEMO handover. The analysis shows how the packet
loss depends on level of nesting within NEMO, the delay between
Home Agents and the load on the MANET, and hence can be used
to developing optimal MANEMO handover algorithms.
Abstract: Mostly the real life signals are time varying in nature. For proper characterization of such signals, time-frequency representation is required. The STFT (short-time Fourier transform) is a classical tool used for this purpose. The limitation of the STFT is its fixed time-frequency resolution. Thus, an enhanced version of the STFT, which is based on the cross-level sampling, is devised. It can adapt the sampling frequency and the window function length by following the input signal local variations. Therefore, it provides an adaptive resolution time-frequency representation of the input. The computational complexity of the proposed STFT is deduced and compared to the classical one. The results show a significant gain of the computational efficiency and hence of the processing power. The processing error of the proposed technique is also discussed.
Abstract: For Seismic design, it is important to estimate,
maximum lateral displacement (inelastic displacement) of the
structures due to sever earthquakes for several reasons. Seismic
design provisions estimate the maximum roof and storey drifts
occurring in major earthquakes by amplifying the drifts of the
structures obtained by elastic analysis subjected to seismic design
load, with a coefficient named “displacement amplification factor"
which is greater than one. Here, this coefficient depends on various
parameters, such as ductility and overstrength factors. The present
research aims to evaluate the value of the displacement amplification
factor in seismic design codes and then tries to propose a value to
estimate the maximum lateral structural displacement from sever
earthquakes, without using non-linear analysis. In seismic codes,
since the displacement amplification is related to “force reduction
factor" hence; this aspect has been accepted in the current study.
Meanwhile, two methodologies are applied to evaluate the value of
displacement amplification factor and its relation with the force
reduction factor. In the first methodology, which is applied for all
structures, the ratio of displacement amplification and force reduction
factors is determined directly. Whereas, in the second methodology
that is applicable just for R/C moment resisting frame, the ratio is
obtained by calculating both factors, separately. The acquired results
of these methodologies are alike and estimate the ratio of two factors
from 1 to 1.2. The results indicate that the ratio of the displacement
amplification factor and the force reduction factor differs to those
proposed by seismic provisions such as NEHRP, IBC and Iranian
seismic code (standard no. 2800).
Abstract: Nowadays, a passenger car suspension must has high
performance criteria with light weight, low cost, and low energy
consumption. Pilot controlled proportional valve is designed and
analyzed to get small pressure change rate after blow-off, and to get a
fast response of the damper, a reverse damping mechanism is adapted.
The reverse continuous variable damper is designed as a HS-SH
damper which offers good body control with reduced transferred input
force from the tire, compared with any other type of suspension
system. The damper structure is designed, so that rebound and
compression damping forces can be tuned independently, of which the
variable valve is placed externally. The rate of pressure change with
respect to the flow rate after blow-off becomes smooth when the fixed
orifice size increases, which means that the blow-off slope is
controllable using the fixed orifice size. Damping forces are measured
with the change of the solenoid current at the different piston
velocities to confirm the maximum hysteresis of 20 N, linearity, and
variance of damping force. The damping force variance is wide and
continuous, and is controlled by the spool opening, of which scheme is
usually adapted in proportional valves. The reverse continuous
variable damper developed in this study is expected to be utilized in
the semi-active suspension systems in passenger cars after its
performance and simplicity of the design is confirmed through a real
car test.
Abstract: Neoclassical and functionalist explanations of self
organization in multiagent systems have been criticized on several accounts including unrealistic explication of overadapted agents and
failure to resolve problems of externality. The paper outlines a more
elaborate and dynamic model that is capable of resolving these dilemmas. An illustrative example where behavioral diversity is
cobred in a repeated nonzero sum task via evolutionary computing is
presented.
Abstract: The purpose of this study is to investigate the
relationship between corporate governance and pricing for initial
public offerings (IPOs). Empirical result finds that the prediction of
pricing of IPOs with corporate governance added can have a rather
higher degree of predicting accuracy than that of non governance
added during the training and testing samples. Therefore, it can be
observed that corporate governance mechanism can affect the pricing
of IPOs
Abstract: In the meat processing industry the substitution of
meat with non-meat ingredients is considered an important strategy
for reducing overall production costs. The main purpose of the
current research was to evaluate differences in physical-chemical
composition of cooked sausage with different legumes additions.
Peas (Pisum sativum), beans (Phaseolus vulgaris) and lentil (Lens
culinaris) were used in preparation of sausages. The legumes at
proportion of 20% of the total weight of meat were added in
sausages. The whole ingredients were mixed, filled into casing,
compressed, cooked and cooled. After storage the samples were
sensory evaluated. The sensory evaluation was carried out using the
nine point hedonic scale and line scale. Sausages without legumes
flour was used as control sample. The main conclusion of the current
research the legumes flour can be successfully used for cooked
sausages production.
Abstract: This paper is concerned with an investigation into the
localized non-stability of a thin elastic orthotropic semi-infinite plate.
In this study, a semi-infinite plate, simply supported on two edges
and different boundary conditions, clamped, hinged, sliding contact
and free on the other edge, are considered. The mathematical model
is used and a general solution is presented the conditions under which
localized solutions exist are investigated.
Abstract: In this paper, we present the preconditioned mixed-type
splitting iterative method for solving the linear systems, Ax = b,
where A is a Z-matrix. And we give some comparison theorems
to show that the convergence rate of the preconditioned mixed-type
splitting iterative method is faster than that of the mixed-type splitting
iterative method. Finally, we give a numerical example to illustrate
our results.
Abstract: An accurate procedure to determine free vibrations of
beams and plates is presented.
The natural frequencies are exact solutions of governing vibration
equations witch load to a nonlinear homogeny system.
The bilinear and linear structures considered simulate a bridge.
The dynamic behavior of this one is analyzed by using the theory of
the orthotropic plate simply supported on two sides and free on the
two others. The plate can be excited by a convoy of constant or
harmonic loads. The determination of the dynamic response of the
structures considered requires knowledge of the free frequencies and
the shape modes of vibrations. Our work is in this context. Indeed,
we are interested to develop a self-consistent calculation of the Eigen
frequencies.
The formulation is based on the determination of the solution of
the differential equations of vibrations. The boundary conditions
corresponding to the shape modes permit to lead to a homogeneous
system. Determination of the noncommonplace solutions of this
system led to a nonlinear problem in Eigen frequencies.
We thus, develop a computer code for the determination of the
eigenvalues. It is based on a method of bisection with interpolation
whose precision reaches 10 -12. Moreover, to determine the
corresponding modes, the calculation algorithm that we develop uses
the method of Gauss with a partial optimization of the "pivots"
combined with an inverse power procedure. The Eigen frequencies
of a plate simply supported along two opposite sides while
considering the two other free sides are thus analyzed. The results
could be generalized with the case of a beam by regarding it as a
plate with low width.
We give, in this paper, some examples of treated cases. The
comparison with results presented in the literature is completely
satisfactory.
Abstract: The RANS method with Saffman-s turbulence model
was employed to solve the time-dependent turbulent Navier-Stokes
and energy equations for oscillating pipe flows. The method of
partial sums of the Fourier series is used to analyze the harmonic
velocity and temperature results. The complete structures of the
oscillating pipe flows and the averaged Nusselt numbers on the tube
wall are provided by numerical simulation over wide ranges of ReA
and ReR. Present numerical code is validated by comparing the
laminar flow results to analytic solutions and turbulence flow results
to published experimental data at lower and higher Reynolds
numbers respectively. The effects of ReA and ReR on the velocity,
temperature and Nusselt number distributions have been di scussed.
The enhancement of the heat transfer due to oscillating flows has
also been presented. By the way of analyzing the overall Nusselt
number over wide ranges of the Reynolds number Re and Keulegan-
Carpenter number KC, the optimal ratio of the tube diameter over
the oscillation amplitude is obtained based on the existence of a
nearly constant optimal KC number. The potential application of the
present results in sea water cooling has also been discussed.
Abstract: This paper shows the results obtained in the analysis
of the impact of distributed generation (DG) on distribution losses
and presents a new algorithm to the optimal allocation of distributed
generation resources in distribution networks. The optimization is
based on a Hybrid Genetic Algorithm and Particle Swarm
Optimization (HGAPSO) aiming to optimal DG allocation in
distribution network. Through this algorithm a significant
improvement in the optimization goal is achieved. With a numerical
example the superiority of the proposed algorithm is demonstrated in
comparison with the simple genetic algorithm.
Abstract: Nowadays there are many methods for representing
knowledge such as semantic network, neural network, and conceptual
graphs. Nonetheless, these methods are not sufficiently efficient
when applied to perform and deduce on knowledge domains about
supporting in general education such as algebra, analysis or plane
geometry. This leads to the introduction of computational network
which is a useful tool for representation knowledge base, especially
for computational knowledge, especially knowledge domain about
general education. However, when dealing with a practical problem,
we often do not immediately find a new solution, but we search
related problems which have been solved before and then proposing
an appropriate solution for the problem. Besides that, when finding
related problems, we have to determine whether the result of them
can be used to solve the practical problem or not. In this paper, the
extension model of computational network has been presented. In this
model, Sample Problems, which are related problems, will be used
like the experience of human about practical problem, simulate the
way of human thinking, and give the good solution for the practical
problem faster and more effectively. This extension model is applied
to construct an automatic system for solving algebraic problems in
middle school.
Abstract: New regulations and standards for noise emission increasingly compel the automotive firms to make some improvements about decreasing the engine noise. Nowadays, the perforated reactive mufflers which have an effective damping capability are specifically used for this purpose. New designs should be analyzed with respect to both acoustics and back pressure. In this study, a reactive perforated muffler is investigated numerically and experimentally. For an acoustical analysis, the transmission loss which is independent of sound source of the present cross flow, the perforated muffler was analyzed by COMSOL. To be able to validate the numerical results, transmission loss was measured experimentally. Back pressure was obtained based on the flow field analysis and was also compared with experimental results. Numerical results have an approximate error of 20% compared to experimental results.
