Abstract: In this paper, Semi-orthogonal B-spline scaling
functions and wavelets and their dual functions are presented
to approximate the solutions of integro-differential equations. The
B-spline scaling functions and wavelets, their properties and the
operational matrices of derivative for this function are presented to
reduce the solution of integro-differential equations to the solution of
algebraic equations. Here we compute B-spline scaling functions of
degree 4 and their dual, then we will show that by using them we have
better approximation results for the solution of integro-differential
equations in comparison with less degrees of scaling functions
Abstract: In industrial environments, the heat exchanger is a
necessary component to any strategy of energy conversion. Much of
thermal energy used in industrial processes passes at least one times
by a heat exchanger, and methods systems recovering thermal
energy.
This survey paper tries to presents in a systemic way an sample
control of a heat exchanger by comparison between three controllers
LQR (linear quadratic regulator), PID (proportional, integrator and
derivate) and Pole Placement. All of these controllers are used mainly
in industrial sectors (chemicals, petrochemicals, steel, food
processing, energy production, etc…) of transportation (automotive,
aeronautics), but also in the residential sector and tertiary (heating, air
conditioning, etc...) The choice of a heat exchanger, for a given
application depends on many parameters: field temperature and
pressure of fluids, and physical properties of aggressive fluids,
maintenance and space. It is clear that the fact of having an
exchanger appropriate, well-sized, well made and well used allows
gain efficiency and energy processes.
Abstract: In this study, we developed a complementary electrochromic device consisting of WO3 and NiO films fabricated by rf-magnetron sputtered. The electrochromic properties of WO3 and NiO films were investigated using cyclic voltammograms (CV), performed on WO3 and NiO films immersed in an electrolyte of 1 M LiClO4 in propylene carbonate (PC). Optical and electrochemical of the films, as a function of coloration–bleaching cycle, were characterized using an UV-Vis-NIR spectrophotometer and cyclic voltammetry (CV). After investigating the properties of WO3 film, NiO film, and complementary electrochromic devices, we concluded that this device provides good reversibility, low power consumption of -2.5 V in color state, high variation of transmittance of 58.96%, changes in optical density of 0.81 and good memory effect under open-circuit conditions. In addition, electrochromic component penetration rate can be retained below 20% within 24h, showing preferred memory features; however, component coloring and bleaching response time are about 33s.
Abstract: The elements for success in the service industry for many organizations have been studied and quantified. They range from effective performance evaluation and management to adequately implementing seven P’s. However, the success story of every organization is unique. What might work for one organization might not for another as every company is inherently distinctive. In this paper, the strategic framework behind the success of Liberty Automobiles Dubai is captured. The primary data necessary for this paper was collected through in-depth interviews with the managers for sales, service and marketing as well as the group general manager. Subsequently, the key areas that led to the success of Liberty Autos will be discussed in this paper.
Abstract: To avoid battery assisted tags with limited lifetime batteries, it is proposed here to replace them by energy harvesting
systems, able to feed from local environment. This would allow total
independence to RFID systems, very interesting for applications
where tag removal from its location is not possible. Example is here
described for luggage safety in airports, and is easily extendable to similar situation in terms of operation constraints. The idea is to fix
RFID tag with energy harvesting system not only to identify luggage
but also to supply an embedded microcontroller with a sensor
delivering luggage weight making it impossible to add or to remove
anything from the luggage during transit phases. The aim is to
optimize the harvested energy for such RFID applications, and to
study in which limits these applications are theoretically possible.
Proposed energy harvester is based on two energy sources:
piezoelectricity and electromagnetic waves, so that when the luggage
is moving on ground transportation to airline counters, the piezo
module supplies the tag and its microcontroller, while the RF module
operates during luggage transit thanks to readers located along the
way. Tag location on the luggage is analyzed to get best vibrations, as
well as harvester better choice for optimizing the energy supply
depending on applications and the amount of energy harvested during
a period of time. Effects of system parameters (RFID UHF
frequencies, limit distance between the tag and the antenna necessary
to harvest energy, produced voltage and voltage threshold) are
discussed and working conditions for such system are delimited.
Abstract: The reported study focuses on pre-service teachers’ professional development during the teaching practice. The cohort studied comprised participants in their final year in the Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science with Graduate Certificate in Education programmes of a university in Fiji. Analysis of the data obtained using a survey questionnaire indicates that overall, the pre-service teachers were satisfied with the practicum experience. This is assumed to demonstrate that the practicum experience contributed well towards their professional preparation for work expected of them in Fiji secondary schools. Participants also identified some concerns as needing attention. To conclude, the paper provides suggestions for improving the preparation of teachers by strengthening the identified areas of the practicum offered by the university. The study has implications for other teacher education providers in small developing island states and even beyond for the purpose of enhancing learning in student teachers’ for future work.
Abstract: This research paper is aimed to examine a relationship between the service marketing mix and customers’ frequency of use of service at Mercedes Benz Auto Repair Centres under Thonburi Group, Thailand. Based on 2,267 customers who used the service of Thonburi Group’s Auto Repair Centres as the population, the sampling of this research was a total of 340 samples, by use of Probability Sampling Technique. Systematic Random Sampling was applied by use of questionnaire in collecting the data at Thonburi Group’s Auto Repair Centres. Mean and Pearson’s basic statistical correlations were utilized in analyzing the data. The study discovered a medium level of customers’ perception towards product and service of Thonburi Group’s Auto Repair Centres, price, place or distribution channel and promotion. People who provided service were perceived also at a medium level, whereas the physical evidence and service process were perceived at a high level. Furthermore, there appeared a correlation between the physical evidence and service process, and customers’ frequency of use of automobile service per year.
Abstract: In Fiji, notable among the recent spate of educational reforms has been the Ministry of Education’s (MoEs) requirement that all schools undertake a process of school strategic planning. This preliminary study explores perceptions of a sample of Fijian teachers on the way this exercise has been conducted in their schools. The analysis of both quantitative and qualitative data indicates that school leaders’ lack of knowledge and skills in school strategic planning is a major limitation. As an unsurprising consequence, the process(es) schools adopted did not conform to what the literature suggests as best planning practices. School leaders need more training to ensure they are better prepared to carry out this strategic planning effectively, especially in widening the opportunities for all who have a stake in education to contribute to the process. Implications of the findings are likely to be pertinent to other developing contexts within and beyond the Pacific region for the training of school leaders to ensure they are better equipped to orchestrate and benefit from educational reforms thrust upon them.
Abstract: This paper proposes a new method to find the equations
of transformation matrix for the rotation angles of the two rotational
axes and the coordinates of the three linear axes of an orthogonal
multi-axis milling machine. This approach provides intuitive physical
meanings for rotation angles of multi-axis machines, which can be
used to evaluate the accuracy of the conversion from CL data to NC
data.
Abstract: The paper presents actual benefits and drawbacks of a multidirectional autonomous hovercraft conceived with limited resources and designed for indoor exploration. Recent developments in the field have led to the apparition of very powerful automotive systems capable of very high calculation and exploration in complex unknown environments. They usually propose very complex algorithms, high precision/cost sensors and sometimes have heavy calculation consumption with complex data fusion. These systems are usually powerful but have a certain price, and the benefits may not be worth the cost, especially considering their hardware limitations and their power consumption. The present approach is to build a compromise between cost, power consumption and results preciseness.
Abstract: Cloud outsource storage is one of important services in cloud computing. Cloud users upload data to cloud servers to reduce the cost of managing data and maintaining hardware and software. To ensure data confidentiality, users can encrypt their files before uploading them to a cloud system. However, retrieving the target file from the encrypted files exactly is difficult for cloud server. This study proposes a protocol for performing multikeyword searches for encrypted cloud data by applying k-nearest neighbor technology. The protocol ranks the relevance scores of encrypted files and keywords, and prevents cloud servers from learning search keywords submitted by a cloud user. To reduce the costs of file transfer communication, the cloud server returns encrypted files in order of relevance. Moreover, when a cloud user inputs an incorrect keyword and the number of wrong alphabet does not exceed a given threshold; the user still can retrieve the target files from cloud server. In addition, the proposed scheme satisfies security requirements for outsourced data storage.
Abstract: This study examined the predictive effects of moral competence, prosocial norms and positive behavior recognition on school misbehavior among Chinese junior secondary school students. Results of multiple regression analysis showed that students were more likely to misbehave in school when they had lower levels of moral competence and prosocial norms, and when they perceived their positive behavior being less likely recognized. Practical implications were discussed on how to guide students to make the right choices to behave appropriately in school. Implications for future research were also discussed.
Abstract: We have developed a polyimide based neural interface electrode to record nerve signals from the sciatic nerve of a rat. The neural interface electrode has a split-ring shape, with four protruding gold electrodes for recording, and two reference gold electrodes around the split-ring. The split-ring electrode can be opened up to encircle the sciatic nerve. The four electrodes can be bent to sit on top of the nerve and hold the device in position, while the split-ring frame remains flat. In comparison, while traditional cuff electrodes can only fit certain sizes of the nerve, the developed device can fit a variety of rat sciatic nerve dimensions from 0.6 mm to 1.0 mm, and adapt to the chronic changes in the nerve as the electrode tips are bendable. The electrochemical impedance spectroscopy measurement was conducted. The gold electrode impedance is on the order of 10 kΩ, showing excellent charge injection capacity to record neural signals.
Abstract: In the process of information transmission (concept verbalization) we deal mostly with the substance (contents), and then pay attention to the form. Recalling events from the remote past, often we cannot exactly reproduce specific heard or pronounced words, as well as the syntactic structures. We remember events, feelings, images; we recall the general contents of the discourse. The thought gets a specific language form only during the concept verbalization phase. With minimum time for pondering, depending on the language competence level, the grammar and syntactic shaping often occurs automatically with the use of famous models and stereotypes. This means that the language form adapts itself to the consciousness, and not vice versa.
Abstract: The cloud computing is an innovative paradigm that introduces several changes in technology that have resulted a new ways for cloud providers to deliver their services to cloud consumers mainly in term of security risk assessment, thus, adapting a current risk assessment tools to cloud computing is a very difficult task due to its several characteristics that challenge the effectiveness of risk assessment approaches. As consequence, there is a need of risk assessment model adapted to cloud computing. This paper requires a new risk assessment model based on multi-agent system and AHP model as fundamental steps towards the development of flexible risk assessment approach regarding cloud consumers.
Abstract: The Council of European Union (EU Council) has
stressed on several occasions the need for a concerted,
comprehensive and effective solution to delinquency problems in EU
communities. In the context of establishing a European Forensic
Science Area and the development of forensic science infrastructure
in Europe, EU Council believes that forensic science can significantly
contribute to the efficiency of law enforcement, crime prevention and
combating crimes. Lithuanian scientists have consolidated to
implement a project named “Conception of the vision for European
Forensic Science 2020 implementation in Lithuania” (the project is
funded for the period of 1 March 2014 - 31 December 2016) with the
objective to create a conception of implementation of the vision for
European Forensic Science 2020 in Lithuania by 1) evaluating the
current status of Lithuania’s forensic system and opportunities for its
improvement; 2) analysing achievements and knowledge in
investigation of crimes listed in conclusions of EU Council on the
vision for European Forensic Science 2020 including creation of a
European Forensic Science Area and the development of forensic
science infrastructure in Europe: trafficking in human beings,
organised crime and terrorism; 3) analysing conceptions of
criminalistics, which differ in different EU member states due to the
variety of forensic schools, and finding means for their
harmonization. Apart from the conception of implementation of the
vision for European Forensic Science 2020 in Lithuania, the Project
is expected to suggest provisions that will be relevant to other EU
countries as well. Consequently, the presented conception of
implementation of vision for European Forensic Science 2020 in
Lithuania could initiate a project for a common vision of European
Forensic Science and contribute to the development of the EU as an
area of freedom, security and justice. The article presents main ideas
of the project of the conception of the vision for European Forensic
Science 2020 of EU Council and analyses its legal background, as
well as prospects of and challenges for its implementation in
Lithuania and the EU.
Abstract: Technical analysis comprised by various technical indicators is a holistic way of representing price movement of stocks in the market. Various forms of indicators have evolved from the primitive ones in the past decades. There have been many attempts to introduce volume as a major determinant to determine strong patterns in market forecasting. The law of demand defines the relationship between the volume and price. Most of the traders are familiar with the volume game. Including the time dimension to the law of demand provides a different visualization to the theory. While attempting the same, it was found that there are different thresholds in the market for different companies. These thresholds have a significant influence on the price. This article is an attempt in determining the thresholds for companies using the three dimensional graphs for optimizing the portfolios. It also emphasizes on the magnitude of importance of volumes as a key factor for determining of predicting strong price movements, bullish and bearish markets. It uses a comprehensive data set of major companies which form a major chunk of the Indian automotive sector and are thus used as an illustration.
Abstract: Seismic design criteria based on performance of
structures have recently been adopted by practicing engineers in
response to destructive earthquakes. A simple but efficient
structural-analysis tool capable of predicting both the strength and
ductility is needed to analyze reinforced concrete (RC) structures
under such event. A three-dimensional lattice model is developed in
this study to analyze torsions in high-strength RC members.
Optimization techniques for determining optimal variables in each
lattice model are introduced. Pure torsion tests of RC members are
performed to validate the proposed model. Correlation studies
between the numerical and experimental results confirm that the
proposed model is well capable of representing salient features of the
experimental results.
Abstract: It is widely assumed that the case of Customs Supply Chain is classified as a complex system, due to not only the variety and large number of actors, but also their complex structural links, and the interactions between these actors, that’s why this system is subject to various types of Risks. The economic, political and social impacts of those risks are highly detrimental to countries, businesses and the public, for this reason, Risk management in the customs supply chain is becoming a crucial issue to ensure the sustainability, security and safety. The main characteristic of customs risk management approach is determining which goods and means of transport should be examined? To what extend? And where future compliance resources should be directed? The purposes of this article are, firstly to deal with the concept of customs supply chain, secondly present our risk management approach based on Cross Activity Based Costing (ABC) Method as an interactive tool to support decision making in customs risk management. Finally, analysis of case study of Moroccan customs to putting theory into practice and will thus draw together the various elements of a structured and efficient risk management approach.
Abstract: This research paper aimed to identify determinants of airline service quality on passengers’ repeated purchase of service. The population of this study was Thai passengers flying domestic flights with Thai Airways, making a total of 300 samples. These 300 samples participated in this research by answering a collection of questions by means of a questionnaire. An analysis of means score and multiple regression revealed that perceived service quality for tangible elements, reliability, responsiveness, assurance and empathy had determined repeated purchase of flight service of the passengers at a high level. Moreover, reliability and responsiveness factors could predict the passengers’ repeated purchase of flight service at the percentage of 30.6. The findings gave a signal that Thai Airways may consider a development of route network and fleet strategy as well as an establishment of aircraft and seat qualification to meet passengers’ needs and requirements. Passengers’ level of satisfaction could also be maximized by offering service value through various kinds of special deals and programs, whereas value- added pricing strategy should be considered in order to differentiate from and beat other leading airline competitors.
