Abstract: Medical Surgical Nursing is one of the major subjects
in nursing. This study examined the validity and reliability of the
achievement examination utilizing the Classical Test Theory and
Item Response Theory. The study answered the following objectives
specifically : ( a) To establish the validity and reliability of the
achievement examination utilizing Classical Test Theory and Item
Response Theory ; ( b ) To determine the dimensionality measure of
items and ( c ) to compare the item difficulty and item discrimination
of the Medical Surgical Nursing Achievement examination using
Classical Test Theory ( CTT ) and Item Response Theory ( IRT ).
The developed instrument was administered to fourth year nursing
students (N= 136) of a private university in Manila. The findings
yielded the following results: The achievement examination is
reliable both using CTT and IRT. The findings indicate person and
item statistics from two frameworks are quite alike. The achievement
examination formed a unidimensional construct.
Abstract: This paper is mainly concerned with the application of
a novel technique of data interpretation for classifying measurements
of plasma columns in Tokamak reactors for nuclear fusion
applications. The proposed method exploits several concepts derived
from soft computing theory. In particular, Artificial Neural Networks
and Multi-Class Support Vector Machines have been exploited to
classify magnetic variables useful to determine shape and position of
the plasma with a reduced computational complexity. The proposed
technique is used to analyze simulated databases of plasma equilibria
based on ITER geometry configuration. As well as demonstrating the
successful recovery of scalar equilibrium parameters, we show that
the technique can yield practical advantages compared with earlier
methods.
Abstract: This paper presents various classifiers results from a system that can automatically recognize four different static human body postures in video sequences. The considered postures are standing, sitting, squatting, and lying. The three classifiers considered are a naïve one and two based on the belief theory. The belief theory-based classifiers use either a classic or restricted plausibility criterion to make a decision after data fusion. The data come from the people 2D segmentation and from their face localization. Measurements consist in distances relative to a reference posture. The efficiency and the limits of the different classifiers on the recognition system are highlighted thanks to the analysis of a great number of results. This system allows real-time processing.
Abstract: This paper studies stability of homogeneous beams
with piezoelectric layers subjected to axial load that is simply
supported at both ends lies on a continuous elastic foundation. The
displacement field of beam is assumed based on first order shear
deformation beam theory. Applying the Hamilton's principle, the
governing equation is established. The influences of applied voltage,
dimensionless geometrical parameter and foundation coefficient on
the stability of beam are presented. To investigate the accuracy of the
present analysis, a compression study is carried out with a known
data.
Abstract: In the meantime, there were lots of hardware solutions like products or urban facilities for crime prevention in the public design area. Meanwhile, people have growing interest in public design so by making a village; community design in public design is getting active by the society. The system for crime prevention is actively done by the citizens who created the community. Regarding the social situation, in this project, we saw it as a kind of community design practices and researched about 'how does community design influence Crime prevention?' The purpose of this study is to propose the community design as a way of preventing the crime in the city. First, we found out about the definition, elements and methods of community design by reviewing the theory. And then, this study analyzed the case that was enforced in Seoul and organize the elements and methods of community design. This study can be refer to Public Design based on civil participation and make the community design area contribute to expand the way of solving social problems.

Abstract: In this paper, a new probability density function (pdf)
is proposed to model the statistics of wavelet coefficients, and a
simple Kalman-s filter is derived from the new pdf using Bayesian
estimation theory. Specifically, we decompose the speckled image
into wavelet subbands, we apply the Kalman-s filter to the high
subbands, and reconstruct a despeckled image from the modified
detail coefficients. Experimental results demonstrate that our method
compares favorably to several other despeckling methods on test
synthetic aperture radar (SAR) images.
Abstract: A general purpose viscous flow solver Ansys CFX
was used to solve the unsteady three-dimensional (3D) Reynolds
Averaged Navier-Stokes Equation (RANSE) for simulating a 3D
numerical viscous wave tank. A flap-type wave generator was
incorporated in the computational domain to generate the desired
incident waves. Authors have made effort to study the physical
behaviors of Flap type wave maker with governing parameters.
Dependency of the water fill depth, Time period of oscillations and
amplitude of oscillations of flap were studied. Effort has been made
to establish relations between parameters. A validation study was
also carried out against CFD methodology with wave maker theory.
It has been observed that CFD results are in good agreement with
theoretical results. Beaches of different slopes were introduced to
damp the wave, so that it should not cause any reflection from
boundary. As a conclusion this methodology can simulate the
experimental wave-maker for regular wave generation for different
wave length and amplitudes.
Abstract: Seemingly simple probabilities in the m-player game bingo have never been calculated. These probabilities include expected game length and the expected number of winners on a given turn. The difficulty in probabilistic analysis lies in the subtle interdependence among the m-many bingo game cards in play. In this paper, the game i got it!, a bingo variant, is considered. This variation provides enough weakening of the inter-player dependence to allow probabilistic analysis not possible for traditional bingo. The probability of winning in exactly k turns is calculated for a one-player game. Given a game of m-many players, the expected game length and tie probability are calculated. With these calculations, the game-s interesting payout scheme is considered.
Abstract: In this paper, we propose an approach of unsupervised
segmentation with fuzzy connectedness. Valid seeds are first specified
by an unsupervised method based on scale space theory. A region is
then extracted for each seed with a relative object extraction method of
fuzzy connectedness. Afterwards, regions are merged according to the
values between them of an introduced measure. Some theorems and
propositions are also provided to show the reasonableness of the
measure for doing mergence. Experiment results on a synthetic image,
a color image and a large amount of MR images of our method are
reported.
Abstract: Equilibrium and stability equations of a thin rectangular plate with length a, width b, and thickness h(x)=C1x+C2, made of functionally graded materials under thermal loads are derived based on the first order shear deformation theory. It is assumed that the material properties vary as a power form of thickness coordinate variable z. The derived equilibrium and buckling equations are then solved analytically for a plate with simply supported boundary conditions. One type of thermal loading, uniform temperature rise and gradient through the thickness are considered, and the buckling temperatures are derived. The influences of the plate aspect ratio, the relative thickness, the gradient index and the transverse shear on buckling temperature difference are all discussed.
Abstract: Primary studies are being carried out in Turkey for
expanding information and communication technologies (ICT) aided instruction activities. Subject of the present study is to identify
whether those studies achieved their goals in the application. Information technologies (IT) formative teachers in the primary
schools, and academicians in the faculties of education were interviewed to investigate the process and results of implementing
computer-aided instruction methods whose basis is strengthened in theory. Analysis of the results gained from two separate surveys
demonstrated that capability of the teachers in elementary education institutions for carrying into effect computer-aided instruction and
technical infrastructure has not been established for computer-aided instruction practices yet. Prospective teachers must be well-equipped in ICT to duly fulfill requirements of modern education and also
must be self-confident. Finally, scope and intensity of the courses given in connection with teaching of the ICT in faculties of education needs to be revised.
Abstract: The belief decision tree (BDT) approach is a decision
tree in an uncertain environment where the uncertainty is represented
through the Transferable Belief Model (TBM), one interpretation
of the belief function theory. The uncertainty can appear either in
the actual class of training objects or attribute values of objects to
classify. In this paper, we develop a post-pruning method of belief
decision trees in order to reduce size and improve classification
accuracy on unseen cases. The pruning of decision tree has a
considerable intention in the areas of machine learning.

Abstract: Graph decompositions are vital in the study of
combinatorial design theory. A decomposition of a graph G is a
partition of its edge set. An n-sun graph is a cycle Cn with an edge
terminating in a vertex of degree one attached to each vertex. In this
paper, we define n-sun decomposition of some even order graphs
with a perfect matching. We have proved that the complete graph
K2n, complete bipartite graph K2n, 2n and the Harary graph H4, 2n have
n-sun decompositions. A labeling scheme is used to construct the n-suns.
Abstract: The paper compares different channel models used for
modeling Broadband Power-Line Communication (BPLC) system.
The models compared are Zimmermann and Dostert, Philipps,
Anatory et al and Anatory et al generalized Transmission Line (TL)
model. The validity of each model was compared in time domain
with ATP-EMTP software which uses transmission line approach. It
is found that for a power-line network with minimum number of
branches all the models give similar signal/pulse time responses
compared with ATP-EMTP software; however, Zimmermann and
Dostert model indicates the same amplitude but different time delay.
It is observed that when the numbers of branches are increased only
generalized TL theory approach results are comparable with ATPEMTP
results. Also the Multi-Carrier Spread Spectrum (MC-SS)
system was applied to check the implication of such behavior on the
modulation schemes. It is observed that using Philipps on the
underground cable can predict the performance up to 25dB better
than other channel models which can misread the actual performance
of the system. Also modified Zimmermann and Dostert under
multipath can predict a better performance of about 5dB better than
the actual predicted by Generalized TL theory. It is therefore
suggested for a realistic BPLC system design and analyses the model
based on generalized TL theory be used.
Abstract: New Growth Theory helps us make sense of the
ongoing shift from a resource-based economy to a knowledge-based
economy. It underscores the point that the economic processes which
create and diffuse new knowledge are critical to shaping the growth
of nations, communities and individual firms. In all too many
contributions to New (Endogenous) Growth Theory – though not in
all – central reference is made to 'a stock of knowledge', a 'stock of
ideas', etc., this variable featuring centre-stage in the analysis. Yet it
is immediately apparent that this is far from being a crystal clear
concept. The difficulty and uncertainty of being able to capture the
value associated with knowledge is a real problem. The intent of this
paper is introducing new thinking and theorizing about the
knowledge and its measurability in new growth theory. Moreover the
study aims to synthesize various strain of the literature with a
practical bearing on knowledge concept. By contribution of
institution framework which is found within NGT, we can indirectly
measure the knowledge concept. Institutions matter because they
shape the environment for production and employment of new
knowledge
Abstract: This paper proposes a new decision making approch
based on quantitative possibilistic influence diagrams which are
extension of standard influence diagrams in the possibilistic framework.
We will in particular treat the case where several expert
opinions relative to value nodes are available. An initial expert assigns
confidence degrees to other experts and fixes a similarity threshold
that provided possibility distributions should respect. To illustrate our
approach an evaluation algorithm for these multi-source possibilistic
influence diagrams will also be proposed.
Abstract: The goal of this paper is to find Wardrop equilibrium
in transport networks at case of uncertainty situations, where the
uncertainty comes from lack of information. We use simulation tool
to find the equilibrium, which gives only approximate solution, but
this is sufficient for large networks as well. In order to take the
uncertainty into account we have developed an interval-based
procedure for finding the paths with minimal cost using the
Dempster-Shafer theory. Furthermore we have investigated the users-
behaviors using game theory approach, because their path choices
influence the costs of the other users- paths.
