Abstract: The electric power supplied by a photovoltaic power
generation systems depends on the solar irradiation and temperature.
The PV system can supply the maximum power to the load at a
particular operating point which is generally called as maximum
power point (MPP), at which the entire PV system operates with
maximum efficiency and produces its maximum power. Hence, a
Maximum power point tracking (MPPT) methods are used to
maximize the PV array output power by tracking continuously the
maximum power point. The proposed MPPT controller is designed
for 10kW solar PV system installed at Cape Institute of Technology.
This paper presents the fuzzy logic based MPPT algorithm. However,
instead of one type of membership function, different structures of
fuzzy membership functions are used in the FLC design. The
proposed controller is combined with the system and the results are
obtained for each membership functions in Matlab/Simulink
environment. Simulation results are decided that which membership
function is more suitable for this system.
Abstract: Tumor is an uncontrolled growth of tissues in any part
of the body. Tumors are of different types and they have different
characteristics and treatments. Brain tumor is inherently serious and
life-threatening because of its character in the limited space of the
intracranial cavity (space formed inside the skull). Locating the tumor
within MR (magnetic resonance) image of brain is integral part of the
treatment of brain tumor. This segmentation task requires
classification of each voxel as either tumor or non-tumor, based on
the description of the voxel under consideration. Many studies are
going on in the medical field using Markov Random Fields (MRF) in
segmentation of MR images. Even though the segmentation process
is better, computing the probability and estimation of parameters is
difficult. In order to overcome the aforementioned issues, Conditional
Random Field (CRF) is used in this paper for segmentation, along
with the modified artificial bee colony optimization and modified
fuzzy possibility c-means (MFPCM) algorithm. This work is mainly
focused to reduce the computational complexities, which are found in
existing methods and aimed at getting higher accuracy. The
efficiency of this work is evaluated using the parameters such as
region non-uniformity, correlation and computation time. The
experimental results are compared with the existing methods such as
MRF with improved Genetic Algorithm (GA) and MRF-Artificial
Bee Colony (MRF-ABC) algorithm.
Abstract: This paper presents a hybrid fuzzy logic control
strategy for a unicycle trajectory following robot on irregular terrains.
In literature, researchers have presented the design of path tracking
controllers of mobile robots on non-frictional surface. In this work,
the robot is simulated to drive on irregular terrains with contrasting
frictional profiles of peat and rough gravel. A hybrid fuzzy logic
controller is utilised to stabilise and drive the robot precisely with the
predefined trajectory and overcome the frictional impact. The
controller gains and scaling factors were optimised using spiral
dynamics optimisation algorithm to minimise the mean square error
of the linear and angular velocities of the unicycle robot. The robot
was simulated on various frictional surfaces and terrains and the
controller was able to stabilise the robot with a superior performance
that is shown via simulation results.
Abstract: The objective of the Economic Dispatch(ED) Problems
of electric power generation is to schedule the committed generating
units outputs so as to meet the required load demand at minimum
operating cost while satisfying all units and system equality and
inequality constraints. This paper presents a new method of ED
problems utilizing the Max-Min Ant System Optimization.
Historically, traditional optimizations techniques have been used,
such as linear and non-linear programming, but within the past
decade the focus has shifted on the utilization of Evolutionary
Algorithms, as an example Genetic Algorithms, Simulated Annealing
and recently Ant Colony Optimization (ACO). In this paper we
introduce the Max-Min Ant System based version of the Ant System.
This algorithm encourages local searching around the best solution
found in each iteration. To show its efficiency and effectiveness, the
proposed Max-Min Ant System is applied to sample ED problems
composed of 4 generators. Comparison to conventional genetic
algorithms is presented.
Abstract: Fuzzy systems have been successfully used for
exchange rate forecasting. However, fuzzy system is very confusing
and complex to be designed by an expert, as there is a large set of
parameters (fuzzy knowledge base) that must be selected, it is not a
simple task to select the appropriate fuzzy knowledge base for an
exchange rate forecasting. The researchers often look the effect of
fuzzy knowledge base on the performances of fuzzy system
forecasting. This paper proposes a genetic fuzzy predictor to forecast
the future value of daily US Dollar/Euro exchange rate time’s series.
A range of methodologies based on a set of fuzzy predictor’s which
allow the forecasting of the same time series, but with a different
fuzzy partition. Each fuzzy predictor is built from two stages, where
each stage is performed by a real genetic algorithm.
Abstract: This study proposes the transformation of nonlinear
Magnetic Levitation System into linear one, via state and feedback
transformations using explicit algorithm. This algorithm allows
computing explicitly the linearizing state coordinates and feedback
for any nonlinear control system, which is feedback linearizable,
without solving the Partial Differential Equations. The algorithm is
performed using a maximum of N-1 steps where N being the
dimension of the system.
Abstract: Segmentation is one of the essential tasks in image
processing. Thresholding is one of the simplest techniques for
performing image segmentation. Multilevel thresholding is a simple
and effective technique. The primary objective of bi-level or
multilevel thresholding for image segmentation is to determine a best
thresholding value. To achieve multilevel thresholding various
techniques has been proposed. A study of some nature inspired
metaheuristic algorithms for multilevel thresholding for image
segmentation is conducted. Here, we study about Particle swarm
optimization (PSO) algorithm, artificial bee colony optimization
(ABC), Ant colony optimization (ACO) algorithm and Cuckoo
search (CS) algorithm.
Abstract: Economic Dispatch (ED) is one of the most
challenging problems of power system since it is difficult to determine
the optimum generation scheduling to meet the particular load demand
with the minimum fuel costs while all constraints are satisfied. The
objective of the Economic Dispatch Problems (EDPs) of electric
power generation is to schedule the committed generating units
outputs so as to meet the required load demand at minimum operating
cost while satisfying all units and system equality and inequality
constraints. In this paper, an efficient and practical steady-state genetic
algorithm (SSGAs) has been proposed for solving the economic
dispatch problem. The objective is to minimize the total generation
fuel cost and keep the power flows within the security limits. To
achieve that, the present work is developed to determine the optimal
location and size of capacitors in transmission power system where,
the Participation Factor Algorithm and the Steady State Genetic
Algorithm are proposed to select the best locations for the capacitors
and determine the optimal size for them.
Abstract: This paper presents general results on the Java source
code snippet detection problem. We propose the tool which uses
graph and subgraph isomorphism detection. A number of solutions
for all of these tasks have been proposed in the literature. However,
although that all these solutions are really fast, they compare just the
constant static trees. Our solution offers to enter an input sample
dynamically with the Scripthon language while preserving an
acceptable speed. We used several optimizations to achieve very low
number of comparisons during the matching algorithm.
Abstract: The system is designed to show images which are
related to the query image. Extracting color, texture, and shape
features from an image plays a vital role in content-based image
retrieval (CBIR). Initially RGB image is converted into HSV color
space due to its perceptual uniformity. From the HSV image, Color
features are extracted using block color histogram, texture features
using Haar transform and shape feature using Fuzzy C-means
Algorithm. Then, the characteristics of the global and local color
histogram, texture features through co-occurrence matrix and Haar
wavelet transform and shape are compared and analyzed for CBIR.
Finally, the best method of each feature is fused during similarity
measure to improve image retrieval effectiveness and accuracy.
Abstract: ‘Steganalysis’ is one of the challenging and attractive interests for the researchers with the development of information hiding techniques. It is the procedure to detect the hidden information from the stego created by known steganographic algorithm. In this paper, a novel feature based image steganalysis technique is proposed. Various statistical moments have been used along with some similarity metric. The proposed steganalysis technique has been designed based on transformation in four wavelet domains, which include Haar, Daubechies, Symlets and Biorthogonal. Each domain is being subjected to various classifiers, namely K-nearest-neighbor, K* Classifier, Locally weighted learning, Naive Bayes classifier, Neural networks, Decision trees and Support vector machines. The experiments are performed on a large set of pictures which are available freely in image database. The system also predicts the different message length definitions.
Abstract: Artificial Neural Networks (ANN) trained using backpropagation
(BP) algorithm are commonly used for modeling
material behavior associated with non-linear, complex or unknown
interactions among the material constituents. Despite multidisciplinary
applications of back-propagation neural networks
(BPNN), the BP algorithm possesses the inherent drawback of
getting trapped in local minima and slowly converging to a global
optimum. The paper present a hybrid artificial neural networks and
genetic algorithm approach for modeling slump of ready mix
concrete based on its design mix constituents. Genetic algorithms
(GA) global search is employed for evolving the initial weights and
biases for training of neural networks, which are further fine tuned
using the BP algorithm. The study showed that, hybrid ANN-GA
model provided consistent predictions in comparison to commonly
used BPNN model. In comparison to BPNN model, the hybrid ANNGA
model was able to reach the desired performance goal quickly.
Apart from the modeling slump of ready mix concrete, the synaptic
weights of neural networks were harnessed for analyzing the relative
importance of concrete design mix constituents on the slump value.
The sand and water constituents of the concrete design mix were
found to exhibit maximum importance on the concrete slump value.
Abstract: This paper proposes a complementary combination scheme of affine projection algorithm (APA) filters with different order of input regressors. A convex combination provides an interesting way to keep the advantage of APA having different order of input regressors. Consequently, a novel APA which has the rapid convergence and the reduced steady-state error is derived. Experimental results show the good properties of the proposed algorithm.
Abstract: Chaotic analysis has been performed on the river flow time series before and after applying the wavelet based de-noising techniques in order to investigate the noise content effects on chaotic nature of flow series. In this study, 38 years of monthly runoff data of three gauging stations were used. Gauging stations were located in Ghar-e-Aghaj river basin, Fars province, Iran. Noise level of time series was estimated with the aid of Gaussian kernel algorithm. This step was found to be crucial in preventing removal of the vital data such as memory, correlation and trend from the time series in addition to the noise during de-noising process.
Abstract: Lately, with the increasing number of location-based applications, demand for highly accurate and reliable indoor localization became urgent. This is a challenging problem, due to the measurement variance which is the consequence of various factors like obstacles, equipment properties and environmental changes in complex nature of indoor environments. In this paper we propose low-cost custom-setup infrastructure solution and localization algorithm based on the Weighted Centroid Localization (WCL) method. Localization accuracy is increased by several enhancements: calibration of RSSI values gained from wireless nodes, repetitive measurements of RSSI to exclude deviating values from the position estimation, and by considering orientation of the device according to the wireless nodes. We conducted several experiments to evaluate the proposed algorithm. High accuracy of ~1m was achieved.
Abstract: In this paper a nonlinear feedback control called augmented automatic choosing control (AACC) for a class of
nonlinear systems with constrained input is presented. When designed
the control, a constant term which arises from linearization of a
given nonlinear system is treated as a coefficient of a stable zero
dynamics. Parameters of the control are suboptimally selected by
maximizing the stable region in the sense of Lyapunov with the aid
of a genetic algorithm. This approach is applied to a field excitation
control problem of power system to demonstrate the splendidness
of the AACC. Simulation results show that the new controller can
improve performance remarkably well.
Abstract: A new efficient normal parameter reduction algorithm of soft set in decision making was proposed. However, up to the present, few documents have focused on real-life applications of this algorithm. Accordingly, we apply a New Efficient Normal Parameter Reduction algorithm into real-life datasets of online shopping, such as Blackberry Mobile Phone Dataset. Experimental results show that this algorithm is not only suitable but feasible for dealing with the online shopping.
Abstract: This paper describes a blind algorithm, which is
compared with two another algorithms proposed in the literature,
for estimating of the minimum phase channel parameters. In order to
identify blindly the impulse response of these channels, we have used
Higher Order Statistics (HOS) to build our algorithm. The simulation
results in noisy environment, demonstrate that the proposed method
could estimate the phase and magnitude with high accuracy of these
channels blindly and without any information about the input, except
that the input excitation is identically and independent distribute
(i.i.d) and non-Gaussian.
Abstract: Imperial competitive algorithm (ICA) simulates a multi-agent algorithm. Each agent is like a kingdom has its country, and the strongest country in each agent is called imperialist, others are colony. Countries are competitive with imperialist which in the same kingdom by evolving. So this country will move in the search space to find better solutions with higher fitness to be a new imperialist. The main idea in this paper is using the peculiarity of ICA to explore the search space to solve the kinds of combinational problems. Otherwise, we also study to use the greed search to increase the local search ability. To verify the proposed algorithm in this paper, the experimental results of traveling salesman problem (TSP) is according to the traveling salesman problem library (TSPLIB). The results show that the proposed algorithm has higher performance than the other known methods.
Abstract: In this paper, the stability analysis of a GA-Based adaptive fuzzy sliding model controller for a nonlinear system is discussed. First, a nonlinear plant is well-approximated and described with a reference model and a fuzzy model, both involving FLC rules. Then, FLC rules and the consequent parameter are decided on via an Evolved Bat Algorithm (EBA). After this, we guarantee a new tracking performance inequality for the control system. The tracking problem is characterized to solve an eigenvalue problem (EVP). Next, an adaptive fuzzy sliding model controller (AFSMC) is proposed to stabilize the system so as to achieve good control performance. Lyapunov’s direct method can be used to ensure the stability of the nonlinear system. It is shown that the stability analysis can reduce nonlinear systems into a linear matrix inequality (LMI) problem. Finally, a numerical simulation is provided to demonstrate the control methodology.
