Abstract: Microstructure analysis of additively manufactured (AM) materials is an important step in understanding the interrelationship between mechanical properties and materials performance. Literature on the effect of a laser-based AM process parameters on the microstructure in the substrate-deposit interface is limited. The interface region, the adjoining area of substrate and deposit, is characterized by the presence of the fusion zone (FZ) and heat affected zone (HAZ) experiencing rapid thermal gyrations resulting in thermal induced transformations. Inconel 718 was utilized as a work material for both the substrate and deposit. Three blocks of Inconel 718 material were deposited by Direct Energy Deposition (DED) using three different laser powers, 550W, 750W and 950W, respectively. A coupled thermo-mechanical transient approach was utilized to correlate temperature history to the evolution of microstructure. Thermal history of the deposition process was monitored with the thermocouples installed inside the substrate material. Interface region of the blocks were analysed with Optical Microscopy (OM) and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) including electron back-scattered diffraction (EBSD) technique. Laser power was found to influence the dissolution of intermetallic precipitated phases in the substrate and grain growth in the interface region. Microstructure and thermal history data were utilized to draw conclusive comparisons between the investigated process parameters.
Abstract: 21st century brought waves of business and industry eTransformations. The impact of change is also being seen in education. To identify the extent of this, scenario analysis methodology was utilised with the aim to assess business transformations across industry sectors ranging from craftsmanship, medicine, finance and manufacture to innovations and adoptions of new technologies and business models. Firstly, scenarios were drafted based on the current eTransformation models and its dimensions. Following this, eTransformation framework was utilised with the aim to derive the key eTransformation parameters, the essential characteristics that have enabled eTransformations across the sectors. Following this, identified key parameters were mapped to the transforming domain-education. The mapping assisted in deriving a cognitive eTransformation framework for education sector. The framework highlights the importance of context and the notion that education today needs not only to deliver content to students but it also needs to be able to meet the dynamically changing demands of specific student and industry groups. Furthermore, it pinpoints that for such processes to be supported, specific technology is required, so that instant, on demand and periodic feedback as well as flexible, dynamically expanding study content can be sought and received via multiple education mediums.
Abstract: Image registration is an important topic for many imaging systems and computer vision applications. The standard image registration techniques such as Mutual information/ Normalized mutual information -based methods have a limited performance because they do not consider the spatial information or the relationships between the neighbouring pixels or voxels. In addition, the amount of image noise may significantly affect the registration accuracy. Therefore, this paper proposes an efficient method that explicitly considers the relationships between the adjacent pixels, where the gradient information of the reference and scene images is extracted first, and then the cosine similarity of the extracted gradient information is computed and used to improve the accuracy of the standard normalized mutual information measure. Our experimental results on different data types (i.e. CT, MRI and thermal images) show that the proposed method outperforms a number of image registration techniques in terms of the accuracy.
Abstract: The water-based bioconvection of a nanofluid
containing motile gyrotactic micro-organisms over nonlinear
inclined stretching sheet has been investigated. The governing
nonlinear boundary layer equations of the model are reduced to a
system of ordinary differential equations via Oberbeck-Boussinesq
approximation and similarity transformations. Further, the modified
set of equations with associated boundary conditions are solved using
Finite Element Method. The impact of various pertinent parameters
on the velocity, temperature, nanoparticles concentration, density of
motile micro-organisms profiles are obtained and analyzed in details.
The results show that with the increase in angle of inclination δ,
velocity decreases while temperature, nanoparticles concentration,
a density of motile micro-organisms increases. Additionally, the
skin friction coefficient, Nusselt number, Sherwood number, density
number are computed for various thermophysical parameters. It
is noticed that increasing Brownian motion and thermophoresis
parameter leads to an increase in temperature of fluid which results
in a reduction in Nusselt number. On the contrary, Sherwood number
rises with an increase in Brownian motion and thermophoresis
parameter. The findings have been validated by comparing the
results of special cases with existing studies.
Abstract: Biomagnetic fluid dynamics is an interdisciplinary field comprising engineering, medicine, and biology. Bio fluid dynamics is directed towards finding and developing the solutions to some of the human body related diseases and disorders. This article describes the flow and heat transfer of two dimensional, steady, laminar, viscous and incompressible biomagnetic fluid over a non-linear stretching sheet in the presence of magnetic dipole. Our model is consistent with blood fluid namely biomagnetic fluid dynamics (BFD). This model based on the principles of ferrohydrodynamic (FHD). The temperature at the stretching surface is assumed to follow a power law variation, and stretching velocity is assumed to have a nonlinear form with signum function or sign function. The governing boundary layer equations with boundary conditions are simplified to couple higher order equations using usual transformations. Numerical solutions for the governing momentum and energy equations are obtained by efficient numerical techniques based on the common finite difference method with central differencing, on a tridiagonal matrix manipulation and on an iterative procedure. Computations are performed for a wide range of the governing parameters such as magnetic field parameter, power law exponent temperature parameter, and other involved parameters and the effect of these parameters on the velocity and temperature field is presented. It is observed that for different values of the magnetic parameter, the velocity distribution decreases while temperature distribution increases. Besides, the finite difference solutions results for skin-friction coefficient and rate of heat transfer are discussed. This study will have an important bearing on a high targeting efficiency, a high magnetic field is required in the targeted body compartment.
Abstract: Sulphur oxidizing bacteria (SOB) have marked their significant role in perspectives of maintaining healthy environment as researchers from all over the world tested and apply these in waste water treatment plants, bioleaching of heavy metals, deterioration of bridge structures, concrete and for bioremediation purposes, etc. Also, these SOB are well adapted in all kinds of environment ranging from normal soil, water habitats to extreme natural sources like geothermal areas, volcanic eruptions, black shale and acid rock drainage (ARD). SOB have been isolated from low pH environment of anthropogenic origin like acid mine drainage (AMD) and bioleaching heaps, hence these can work efficiently in different environmental conditions. Besides having many applications in field of environment science, they may be proven to be very beneficial in area of agriculture as sulphur is the fourth major macronutrients required for the growth of plants. More amount of sulphur is needed by pulses and oilseed crops with respect to the cereal grains. Due to continuous use of land for overproduction of more demanding sulphur utilizing crops and without application of sulphur fertilizers, its concentration is decreasing day by day, and thus, sulphur deficiency is becoming a great problem as it affects the crop productivity and quality. Sulphur is generally found in soils in many forms which are unavailable for plants (cannot be use by plants) like elemental sulphur, thiosulphate which can be taken up by bacteria and converted into simpler forms usable by plants by undergoing a series of transformations. So, keeping the importance of sulphur in view for various soil types, oilseed crops and role of microorganisms in making them available to plants, we made an effort to isolate, optimize, and characterize SOB. Three potential strains of bacteria were isolated, namely SSF7, SSA21, and SSS6, showing sulphate production of concentration, i.e. 2.268, 3.102, and 2.785 mM, respectively. Also, these were optimized for various culture conditions like carbon, nitrogen source, pH, temperature, and incubation time, and characterization was also done.
Abstract: This study aims at surveying and analyzing the contribution of Sokoto scholars or Sokoto Caliphate in the development of science and technology in West Africa. Today, it is generally accepted that the 19th century Islamic revivalism in Hausaland was a very important revolution in the history of Hausa society and beyond. It is therefore, as a result of this movement or Jihad; the Hausaland (West Africa in general) witnessed several changes and transformations. These changes were in different sectors of life from politics, economy to social and religious aspect. It is these changes especially on religion that will be given considerations in this paper. The jihad resulted is the establishment of an Islamic state of Sokoto Caliphate, the revival Islam and development of learning and scholarship. During the existence of this Caliphate, a great deal of scholarship on Islamic laws were revived, written and documented by mostly, the three Jihad leaders; Usmanu Danfodiyo, his brother Abdullahi Fodiyo and his son Muhammad Bello. The trio had written more than one thousand books and made several verdicts on Islamic medicine. This study therefore, seeks to find out the contributions of these scholars or the Sokoto caliphate in the development of science in West Africa.
Abstract: The effect of directional search using iterated functional system has been studied on four images taken from databases. The images are portioned successively towards smaller dimension. Presented method provides the faster rate of convergence with respect to processing time in the flat region, but the same has been found to be slower at the border of the images and edges. It has also been revealed that the PSNR is lower at the edges and border portions of the image, and it is found to be higher in the uniform gray region, under the same external illumination and external noise environment.
Abstract: Water suspensions of in-organic (metals and oxides)
and organic nano-objects (chitozan and collagen) were subjected to
the treatment of direct and alternative electrical fields. In addition to
quasi-periodical spatial patterning resonance-like performance of
spatial distributions of these suspensions has been found at low
frequencies of alternating electrical field. These resonances are
explained as the result of creation of equilibrium states of groups of
charged nano-objects with opposite signs of charges at the interparticle
distances where the forces of Coulomb attraction are
compensated by the repulsion forces induced by relatively negative
polarization of hydrated regions surrounding the nanoparticles with
respect to pure water. The low frequencies of these resonances are
explained by comparatively big distances between the particles and
their big masses with t\respect to masses of atoms constituting
molecules with high resonance frequencies. These new resonances
open a new approach to detailed modeling and understanding of
mechanisms of the influence of electrical fields on the functioning of
internal organs of living organisms at the level of cells and neurons.
Abstract: Current systems complexity has reached a degree that
requires addressing conception and design issues while taking into
account environmental, operational, social, legal and financial
aspects. Therefore, one of the main challenges is the way complex
systems are specified and designed. The exponential growing effort,
cost and time investment of complex systems in modeling phase
emphasize the need for a paradigm, a framework and an environment
to handle the system model complexity. For that, it is necessary to
understand the expectations of the human user of the model and his
limits. This paper presents a generic framework for designing
complex systems, highlights the requirements a system model needs
to fulfill to meet human user expectations, and suggests a graphbased
formalism for modeling complex systems. Finally, a set of
transformations are defined to handle the model complexity.
Abstract: This study is about the structural transformations of
aluminium examining with the Dynamic Mechanical Thermal
Analyzer (DMTA). It is a faster and simpler measuring method to
make consequence about the metal’s structural transformations. The
device measures the changing of the mechanical characteristics
depending on the heating rate, and concludes certain transformations.
This measuring method fast and shows clean-cut results comparing
the conventional ways.
Applying polymer measuring devices for metal investigations is
not widespread method. One of the adaptable ways is shown in this
study. The article compares the results of the small specimen test and
the DMTA method, considering the temperature and the forming
dependence of recrystallization temperature.
Abstract: Laplace transformations have wide applications in
engineering and sciences. All previous studies of modified Laplace
transformations depend on differential equation with initial
conditions. The purpose of our paper is to solve the linear differential
equations (not initial value problem) and then find the general
solution (not particular) via the Laplace transformations without
needed any initial condition. The study involves both types of
differential equations, ordinary and partial.
Abstract: It is well known, that any interpolating polynomial
p (x, y) on the vector space Pn,m of two-variable polynomials with
degree less than n in terms of x and less than m in terms of y, has
various representations that depends on the basis of Pn,m that we
select i.e. monomial, Newton and Lagrange basis e.t.c.. The aim of
this short note is twofold : a) to present transformations between the
coordinates of the polynomial p (x, y) in the aforementioned basis
and b) to present transformations between these bases.
Abstract: Generally, the traditional Shewhart p chart has been developed by for charting the binomial data. This chart has been developed using the normal approximation with condition as low defect level and the small to moderate sample size. In real applications, however, are away from these assumptions due to skewness in the exact distribution. In this paper, a modified Exponentially Weighted Moving Average (EWMA) control chat for detecting a change in binomial data by improving square root transformations, namely ISRT p EWMA control chart. The numerical results show that ISRT p EWMA chart is superior to ISRT p chart for small to moderate shifts, otherwise, the latter is better for large shifts.

The chaotic homotopy groups of the limit folding for chaotic flat space are presented. The chaotic fundamental groups of some types of chaotic geodesics in chaotic flat space are deduced.
Abstract: The problem of magnetohydrodynamics boundary layer flow and heat transfer on a permeable stretching surface in a second grade nanofluid under the effect of heat generation and partial slip is studied theoretically. The Brownian motion and thermophoresis effects are also considered. The boundary layer equations governed by the PDE’s are transformed into a set of ODE’s with the help of local similarity transformations. The differential equations are solved by variational finite element method. The effects of different controlling parameters on the flow field and heat transfer characteristics are examined. The numerical results for the dimensionless velocity, temperature and nanoparticle volume fraction as well as the reduced Nusselt and Sherwood number have been presented graphically. The comparison confirmed excellent agreement. The present study is of great interest in coating and suspensions, cooling of metallic plate, oils and grease, paper production, coal water or coal-oil slurries, heat exchangers technology, materials processing exploiting.
Abstract: This paper presents the comparative study of coded
data methods for finding the benefit of concealing the natural data
which is the mercantile secret. Influential parameters of the number
of replicates (rep), treatment effects (τ) and standard deviation (σ)
against the efficiency of each transformation method are investigated.
The experimental data are generated via computer simulations under
the specified condition of the process with the completely
randomized design (CRD). Three ways of data transformation consist
of Box-Cox, arcsine and logit methods. The difference values of F
statistic between coded data and natural data (Fc-Fn) and hypothesis
testing results were determined. The experimental results indicate
that the Box-Cox results are significantly different from natural data
in cases of smaller levels of replicates and seem to be improper when
the parameter of minus lambda has been assigned. On the other hand,
arcsine and logit transformations are more robust and obviously,
provide more precise numerical results. In addition, the alternate
ways to select the lambda in the power transformation are also
offered to achieve much more appropriate outcomes.
Abstract: In this paper, a robust watermarking algorithm using
the wavelet transform and edge detection is presented. The efficiency
of an image watermarking technique depends on the preservation of
visually significant information. This is attained by embedding the
watermark transparently with the maximum possible strength. The
watermark embedding process is carried over the subband
coefficients that lie on edges, where distortions are less noticeable,
with a subband level dependent strength. Also, the watermark is
embedded to selected coefficients around edges, using a different
scale factor for watermark strength, that are captured by a
morphological dilation operation. The experimental evaluation of the
proposed method shows very good results in terms of robustness and
transparency to various attacks such as median filtering, Gaussian
noise, JPEG compression and geometrical transformations.
Abstract: Quasigroups are algebraic structures closely related to
Latin squares which have many different applications. The
construction of block cipher is based on quasigroup string
transformation. This article describes a block cipher based
Quasigroup of order 256, suitable for fast software encryption of
messages written down in universal ASCII code. The novelty of this
cipher lies on the fact that every time the cipher is invoked a new set
of two randomly generated quasigroups are used which in turn is
used to create a pair of quasigroup of dual operations. The
cryptographic strength of the block cipher is examined by calculation
of the xor-distribution tables. In this approach some algebraic
operations allows quasigroups of huge order to be used without any
requisite to be stored.
Abstract: Graph rewriting-based visual model processing is a
widely used technique for model transformation. Visual model
transformations often need to follow an algorithm that requires a
strict control over the execution sequence of the transformation steps.
Therefore, in Visual Model Processors (VMPs) the execution order
of the transformation steps is crucial. This paper presents the visual
control flow support of Visual Modeling and Transformation System
(VMTS), which facilitates composing complex model
transformations of simple transformation steps and executing them.
The VMTS Visual Control Flow Language (VCFL) uses stereotyped
activity diagrams to specify control flow structures and OCL
constraints to choose between different control flow branches. This
paper introduces VCFL, discusses its termination properties and
provides an algorithm to support the termination analysis of VCFL
transformations.
