Abstract: This paper presents the effects of mixing procedures
on mechanical properties of flyash-based geopolymer matrices
containing nanosilica (NS) at 0.5%, 1.0%, 2.0%, and 3.0% by weight.
Comparison is made with conventional mechanical dry-mixing of NS
with flyash and wet-mixing of NS in alkaline solutions. Physical and
mechanical properties are investigated using X-Ray Diffraction
(XRD) and Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM). Results show that
generally the addition of NS particles enhanced the microstructure
and improved flexural and compressive strengths of geopolymer
nanocomposites. However, samples, prepared using dry-mixing
approach, demonstrate better physical and mechanical properties
comparing to wet-mixing samples.
Abstract: The occurrences of precipitation, also commonly
referred as rain, in the form of "convective" and "stratiform" have
been identified to exist worldwide. In this study, the radar return
echoes or known as reflectivity values acquired from radar scans
have been exploited in the process of classifying the type of rain
endured. The investigation use radar data from Malaysian
Meteorology Department (MMD). It is possible to discriminate the
types of rain experienced in tropical region by observing the vertical
characteristics of the rain structure. .Heavy rain in tropical region
profoundly affects radiowave signals, causing transmission
interference and signal fading. Required wireless system fade margin
depends on the type of rain. Information relating to the two
mentioned types of rain is critical for the system engineers and
researchers in their endeavour to improve the reliability of
communication links. This paper highlights the quantification of
percentage occurrences over one year period in 2009.
Abstract: In this study, Brillouin Gain Spectrum (BGS) is
experimentally analyzed in the Brillouin Optical Time Domain
Reflectometry (BOTDR) and Brillouin Optical Time Domain
Analyzer (BOTDA). For this purpose, the signal level of the
microwave generator is varied and the effects of BGS are
investigated. In the setups, 20 km conventional single mode fiber is
used to both setups and laser wavelengths are selected around 1550
nm. To achieve best results, it can be used between 5 dBm to 15 dBm
signal level of microwave generator for BOTDA and BOTDR setups.
Abstract: Information technology has been gaining more and
more space whether in industry, commerce or even for personal use,
but the misuse of it brings harm to the environment and human health
as a result. Contribute to the sustainability of the planet is to
compensate the environment, all or part of what withdraws it. The
green computing also came to propose practical for use in IT in an
environmentally correct way in aid of strategic management and
communication. This work focuses on showing how a mobile
application can help businesses reduce costs and reduced
environmental impacts caused by its processes, through a case study
of a public company in Brazil.
Abstract: Over the last two decades, externally bonded fiber
reinforced polymer (FRP) composites bonded to concrete substrates
has become a popular method for strengthening reinforced concrete
(RC) highway and railway bridges. Such structures are exposed to
severe cyclic loading throughout their lifetime often resulting in
fatigue damage to structural components and a reduction in the
service life of the structure. Since experimental and numerical results
on the fatigue performance of FRP-to-concrete joints are still limited,
the current research focuses on assessing the fatigue performance of
externally bonded FRP-to-concrete joints using a direct shear test.
Some early results indicate that the stress ratio and the applied cyclic
stress level have a direct influence on the fatigue life of the externally
bonded FRP. In addition, a calibrated finite element model is
developed to provide further insight into the influence of certain
parameters such as: concrete strength, FRP thickness, number of
cycles, frequency, and stiffness on the fatigue life of the FRP-toconcrete
joints.
Abstract: The increase in electric power demand in face of
environmental issues has intensified the participation of renewable
energy sources such as photovoltaics, in the energy matrix of various
countries. Due to their operational characteristics, they can generate
time-varying harmonic and inter-harmonic distortions. For this
reason, the application of methods of measurement based on
traditional Fourier analysis, as proposed by IEC 61000-4-7, can
provide inaccurate results. Considering the aspects mentioned herein,
came the idea of the development of this work which aims to present
the results of a comparative evaluation between a methodology
arising from the combination of the Prony method with the Kalman
filter and another method based on the IEC 61000-4-30 and IEC
61000-4-7 standards. Employed in this study were synthetic signals
and data acquired through measurements in a 50kWp photovoltaic
installation.

Iron in the blended products.
Abstract: This paper deals with using of prevailing operation
system MS Office (SmartArt...) for mathematical models, using
DYVELOP (Dynamic Vector Logistics of Processes) method. It
serves for crisis situations investigation and modelling within the
organizations of critical infrastructure. In first part of paper, it will be
introduced entities, operators, and actors of DYVELOP method. It
uses just three operators of Boolean algebra and four types of the
entities: the Environments, the Process Systems, the Cases, and the
Controlling. The Process Systems (PrS) have five “brothers”:
Management PrS, Transformation PrS, Logistic PrS, Event PrS and
Operation PrS. The Cases have three “sisters”: Process Cell Case,
Use Case, and Activity Case. They all need for the controlling of
their functions special Ctrl actors, except ENV – it can do without
Ctrl. Model´s maps are named the Blazons and they are able
mathematically - graphically express the relationships among entities,
actors and processes. In second part of this paper, the rich blazons of
DYVELOP method will be used for the discovering and modelling of
the cycling cases and their phases. The blazons need live PowerPoint
presentation for better comprehension of this paper mission. The
crisis management of energetic crisis infrastructure organization is
obliged to use the cycles for successful coping of crisis situations.
Several times cycling of these cases is necessary condition for the
encompassment for both emergency events and the mitigation of
organization´s damages. Uninterrupted and continuous cycling
process brings for crisis management fruitfulness and it is good
indicator and controlling actor of organizational continuity and its
sustainable development advanced possibilities. The research reliable
rules are derived for the safety and reliable continuity of energetic
critical infrastructure organization in the crisis situation.
Abstract: When evaluating the capacity of a generation park to
cover the load in transmission systems, traditional Loss of Load
Expectation (LOLE) and Expected Energy not Served (EENS)
indices can be used. If those indices allow computing the annual
duration and severity of load non covering situations, they do not take
into account the fact that the load excess is generally shifted from one
penury state (hour or quarter of an hour) to the following one. In this
paper, a sequential Monte Carlo framework is introduced in order to
compute adjusted LOLE and EENS indices. Practically, those
adapted indices permit to consider the effect of load excess transfer
on the global adequacy of a generation park, providing thus a more
accurate evaluation of this quantity.
Abstract: Geopolymer composites reinforced with flax fabrics
and nanoclay are fabricated and studied for physical and mechanical
properties using X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), Fourier Transform
Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), and Scanning Electron Microscope
(SEM). Nanoclay platelets at a weight of 1.0%, 2.0%, and 3.0% were
added to geopolymer pastes. Nanoclay at 2.0 wt.% was found to
improve density and decrease porosity while improving flexural
strength and post-peak toughness. A microstructural analysis
indicated that nanoclay behaves as filler and as an activator
supporting geopolymeric reaction while producing a higher content
geopolymer gel improving the microstructure of binders. The process
enhances adhesion between the geopolymer matrix and flax fibres.
Abstract: Coal fly ash, an industrial by product of coal
combustion thermal power plants is considered as a hazardous
material and its improper disposal has become an environmental
issue. On the other hand, manufacturing conventional clay bricks
involves on consumption of large amount of clay and leads
substantial depletion of topsoil. This paper unveils the possibility of
using fly ash as a partial replacement of clay for brick manufacturing
considering the local technology practiced in Bangladesh. The effect
of fly ash with different replacing ratio (0%, 20%, 30%, 40%, and
50% by volume) of clay on properties of bricks was studied. Bricks
were made in the field parallel to ordinary bricks marked with
specific number for different percentage to identify them at time of
testing. No physical distortion is observed in fly ash brick after
burning in the kiln. Results from laboratory test show that
compressive strength of brick is decreased with the increase of fly
ash and maximum compressive strength is found to be 19.6 MPa at
20% of fly ash. In addition, water absorption of fly ash brick is
increased with the increase of fly ash. The abrasion value and
Specific gravity of coarse aggregate prepared from brick with fly ash
also studied and the results of this study suggests that 20% fly ash
can be considered as the optimum fly ash content for producing good
quality bricks utilizing present practiced technology.
Abstract: Much of the literature on research design has focused
on research conducted in developed, uni-cultural or primarily English
speaking countries. Studies of qualitative case study research, the
challenges, and prospects have been embedded in Western/Eurocentric
society and social theories. Although there have been some
theoretical studies, few empirical studies have been conducted to
explore the nature of the challenges of qualitative case study in
developing countries. These challenges include accessibility to
organizations, conducting interviews in developing countries,
accessing documents and observing official meetings, language and
cultural challenges, the use of consent forms, issues affecting access
to companies, respondent issues, and data analysis. The author, while
conducting qualitative case study research in Libya, faced all these
issues. The discussion in this paper examines these issues in order to
make a contribution toward the literature in this area.

Abstract: This study investigates the influence of low
temperature thermo-chemical pretreatment of organic food waste on
performance of COD solubilisation. Both temperature and alkaline
agent were reported to have effect on solubilizing any possible
biomass including organic food waste. The three independent
variables considered in this pretreatment were temperature (50-90oC),
pretreatment time (30-120 minutes) and alkaline concentration,
sodium hydroxide, NaOH (0.7-15 g/L). The maximal condition
obtained were 90oC, 15 g/L NaOH for 2 hours. Solubilisation has
potential in enhancing methane production by providing high amount
of soluble components at early stage during anaerobic digestion.
Abstract: Steel extended end plate bolted connections are
recommended to be widely utilized in special moment-resisting frame
subjected to monotonic loading. Improper design of steel beam to
column connection can lead to the collapse and fatality of structures.
Therefore comprehensive research studies of beam to column
connection design should be carried out. Also the performance and
effect of corrugated on the strength of beam column end plate
connection up to failure under monotonic loading in horizontal
direction is presented in this paper. The non-linear elastic–plastic
behavior has been considered through a finite element analysis using
the multi-purpose software package LUSAS. The effect of vertically
and horizontally types of corrugated web was also investigated.
Abstract: Large-scale machine tools for the manufacturing of
large work pieces, e.g. blades, casings or gears for wind turbines,
feature pose-dependent dynamic behavior. Small structural damping
coefficients lead to long decay times for structural vibrations that
have negative impacts on the production process. Typically, these
vibrations are handled by increasing the stiffness of the structure by
adding mass. This is counterproductive to the needs of sustainable
manufacturing as it leads to higher resource consumption both in
material and in energy. Recent research activities have led to higher
resource efficiency by radical mass reduction that is based on controlintegrated
active vibration avoidance and damping methods. These
control methods depend on information describing the dynamic
behavior of the controlled machine tools in order to tune the
avoidance or reduction method parameters according to the current
state of the machine. This paper presents the appearance, consequences and challenges
of the pose-dependent dynamic behavior of lightweight large-scale
machine tool structures in production. It starts with the theoretical
introduction of the challenges of lightweight machine tool structures
resulting from reduced stiffness. The statement of the pose-dependent
dynamic behavior is corroborated by the results of the experimental
modal analysis of a lightweight test structure. Afterwards, the
consequences of the pose-dependent dynamic behavior of lightweight
machine tool structures for the use of active control and vibration
reduction methods are explained. Based on the state of the art of
pose-dependent dynamic machine tool models and the modal
investigation of an FE-model of the lightweight test structure, the
criteria for a pose-dependent model for use in vibration reduction are
derived. The description of the approach for a general posedependent
model of the dynamic behavior of large lightweight
machine tools that provides the necessary input to the aforementioned
vibration avoidance and reduction methods to properly tackle
machine vibrations is the outlook of the paper.
Abstract: Well logging records can help to answer many
questions from a wide range of special interested information and
basic petrophysical properties to formation evaluation of oil and gas
reservoirs. The accurate calculations of porosity in carbonate
reservoirs are the most challenging aspects of the well logging
analysis. Many equations have been developed over the years based
on known physical principles or on empirically derived relationships,
which are used to calculate porosity, estimate lithology, and water
saturation; however these parameters are calculated from well logs by
using modern technique in a current study. Nasiriya oil field is one of
the giant oilfields in the Middle East, and the formation under study
is the Mishrif carbonate formation which is the shallowest
hydrocarbon bearing zone in this oilfield. Neurolog software was
used to digitize the scanned copies of the available logs.
Environmental corrections had been made as per Schlumberger charts
2005, which supplied in the Interactive Petrophysics software. Three
saturation models have been used to calculate water saturation of
carbonate formations, which are simple Archie equation, Dual water
model, and Indonesia model. Results indicate that the Mishrif
formation consists mainly of limestone, some dolomite, and shale.
The porosity interpretation shows that the logging tools have a good
quality after making the environmental corrections. The average
formation water saturation for Mishrif formation is around 0.4-
0.6.This study is provided accurate behavior of petrophysical
properties with depth for this formation by using modern software.
Abstract: Kurtbogazi Dam has gained special meaning for Ankara, Turkey for the last decade due to the rapid depletion of nearby resources of drinking water. In this study, the results of the analyses of Kurtbogazi Dam outlet water and the rivers flowing into the Kurtbogazi Dam were discussed for the period of last five years between 2008 and 2012. Some physical and chemical properties (pH, temperature, biochemical oxygen demand (BOD5), nitrate, phosphate and chlorine) of these water resources were evaluated. They were classified according to the Council Directive (75/440/EEC). Moreover, the properties of these surface waters were assessed to determine the quality of water for drinking and irrigation purposes using Piper, US Salinity Laboratory and Wilcox diagrams. The results showed that all the water resources are acceptable level as surface water except for Pazar Stream in terms of ortho-phosphate and BOD5 concentration for 2008.
