Abstract: As the deployment of the Fifth Generation (5G) mobile communication networks take shape all over the world, achieving spectral efficiency, energy efficiency, and dealing with interference are among the greatest challenges encountered so far. The aim of this study is to mitigate inter-cell interference (ICI) in a multi-cell multi-antenna system while maximizing the spectral efficiency of the system. In this study, a system model was devised that showed a miniature representation of a multi-cell multi-antenna system. Based on this system model, a convex optimization problem was formulated to maximize the spectral efficiency of the system while mitigating the ICI. This optimization problem was solved using CVX, which is a modeling system for constructing and solving discipline convex programs. The solutions to the optimization problem are sub-optimal coordinated beamformers. These coordinated beamformers direct each data to the served user equipments (UEs) in each cell without interference during downlink transmission, thereby maximizing the system-wide spectral efficiency.
Abstract: MIMO-OFDM communication system presents a key
solution for the next generation of mobile communication due
to its high spectral efficiency, high data rate and robustness
against multi-path fading channels. However, MIMO-OFDM system
requires a perfect knowledge of the channel state information and
a good synchronization between the transmitter and the receiver
to achieve the expected performances. Recently, we have proposed
two algorithms for channel estimation and timing synchronization
with good performances and very low implementation complexity
compared to those proposed in the literature. In order to validate and
evaluate the efficiency of these algorithms in real environments, this
paper presents in detail the implementation of 2 × 2 MIMO-OFDM
system based on LabVIEW and USRP 2920. Implementation results
show a good agreement with the simulation results under different
configuration parameters.
Abstract: Visible light communication (VLC) is a new approach of optical wireless communication proposed to support the congested radio frequency (RF) spectrum. VLC systems are combined with orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) to achieve high rate transmission and high spectral efficiency. In this paper, we investigate the Pilot-Assisted Channel Estimation for DC biased Optical OFDM (PACE-DCO-OFDM) systems to reduce the effects of the distortion on the transmitted signal. Least-square (LS) and linear minimum mean-squared error (LMMSE) estimators are implemented in MATLAB/Simulink to enhance the bit-error-rate (BER) of PACE-DCO-OFDM. Results show that DCO-OFDM system based on PACE scheme has achieved better BER performance compared to conventional system without pilot assisted channel estimation. Simulation results show that the proposed PACE-DCO-OFDM based on LMMSE algorithm can more accurately estimate the channel and achieves better BER performance when compared to the LS based PACE-DCO-OFDM and the traditional system without PACE. For the same signal to noise ratio (SNR) of 25 dB, the achieved BER is about 5×10-4 for LMMSE-PACE and 4.2×10-3 with LS-PACE while it is about 2×10-1 for system without PACE scheme.
Abstract: Link adaptation is an important strategy for achieving robust wireless multimedia communications based on quality of service (QoS) demand. Scheme switching in multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) systems is an aspect of link adaptation, and it involves selecting among different MIMO transmission schemes or modes so as to adapt to the varying radio channel conditions for the purpose of achieving QoS delivery. However, finding the most appropriate switching method in MIMO links is still a challenge as existing methods are either computationally complex or not always accurate. This paper presents an intelligent switching method for the MIMO system consisting of two schemes - transmit diversity (TD) and spatial multiplexing (SM) - using fuzzy logic technique. In this method, two channel quality indicators (CQI) namely average received signal-to-noise ratio (RSNR) and received signal strength indicator (RSSI) are measured and are passed as inputs to the fuzzy logic system which then gives a decision – an inference. The switching decision of the fuzzy logic system is fed back to the transmitter to switch between the TD and SM schemes. Simulation results show that the proposed fuzzy logic – based switching technique outperforms conventional static switching technique in terms of bit error rate and spectral efficiency.
Abstract: Incorporating Home eNodeB (HeNB) in cellular networks, e.g. Long Term Evolution Advanced (LTE-A), is beneficial for extending coverage and enhancing capacity at low price especially within the non-line-of sight (NLOS) environments such as homes. HeNB or femtocell is a small low powered base station which provides radio coverage to the mobile users in an indoor environment. This deployment results in a heterogeneous network where the available spectrum becomes shared between two layers. Therefore, a problem of Inter Cell Interference (ICI) appears. This issue is the main challenge in LTE-A. To deal with this challenge, various techniques based on frequency, time and power control are proposed. This paper deals with the impact of carrier aggregation and higher order MIMO (Multiple Input Multiple Output) schemes on the LTE-Advanced performance. Simulation results show the advantages of these schemes on the system capacity (4.109 b/s/Hz when bandwidth B=100 MHz and when applying MIMO 8x8 for SINR=30 dB), maximum theoretical peak data rate (more than 4 Gbps for B=100 MHz and when MIMO 8x8 is used) and spectral efficiency (15 b/s/Hz and 30b/s/Hz when MIMO 4x4 and MIMO 8x8 are applying respectively for SINR=30 dB).
Abstract: The next generation mobile communication systems i.e. fourth generation (4G) was developed to accommodate the quality of service and required data rate. This project focuses on multiple access technique proposed in 4G communication systems. It is attempted to demonstrate the IDMA (Interleave Division Multiple Access) technology. The basic principle of IDMA is that interleaver is different for each user whereas CDMA employs different signatures. IDMA inherits many advantages of CDMA such as robust against fading, easy cell planning; dynamic channel sharing and IDMA increase the spectral efficiency and reduce the receiver complexity. In this, performance of IDMA is analyzed using QC-LDPC coding scheme further it is compared with LDPC coding and at last BER is calculated and plotted in MATLAB.
Abstract: Wireless Body Area Network (WBAN) is a short-range
wireless communication around human body for various applications
such as wearable devices, entertainment, military, and especially
medical devices. WBAN attracts the attention of continuous health
monitoring system including diagnostic procedure, early detection of
abnormal conditions, and prevention of emergency situations.
Compared to cellular network, WBAN system is more difficult to
control inter- and inner-cell interference due to the limited power,
limited calculation capability, mobility of patient, and
non-cooperation among WBANs.
In this paper, we compare the performance of resource allocation
scheme based on several Pseudo Orthogonal Codewords (POCs) to
mitigate inter-WBAN interference. Previously, the POCs are widely
exploited for a protocol sequence and optical orthogonal code. Each
POCs have different properties of auto- and cross-correlation and
spectral efficiency according to its construction of POCs. To identify
different WBANs, several different pseudo orthogonal patterns based
on POCs exploits for resource allocation of WBANs. By simulating
these pseudo orthogonal resource allocations of WBANs on
MATLAB, we obtain the performance of WBANs according to
different POCs and can analyze and evaluate the suitability of POCs
for the resource allocation in the WBANs system.
Abstract: Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing
(OFDM) has been used in many advanced wireless communication
systems due to its high spectral efficiency and robustness to
frequency selective fading channels. However, the major concern
with OFDM system is the high peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR)
of the transmitted signal. Some of the popular techniques used for
PAPR reduction in OFDM system are conventional partial transmit
sequences (CPTS) and clipping. In this paper, a parallel
combination/hybrid scheme of PAPR reduction using clipping and
CPTS algorithms is proposed. The proposed method intelligently
applies both the algorithms in order to reduce both PAPR as well as
computational complexity. The proposed scheme slightly degrades
bit error rate (BER) performance due to clipping operation and it can
be reduced by selecting an appropriate value of the clipping ratio
(CR). The simulation results show that the proposed algorithm
achieves significant PAPR reduction with much reduced
computational complexity.
Abstract: Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) systems are
wireless systems with multiple antenna elements at both ends of the
link. Wireless communication systems demand high data rate and
spectral efficiency with increased reliability. MIMO systems have
been popular techniques to achieve these goals because increased
data rate is possible through spatial multiplexing scheme and
diversity. Spatial Multiplexing (SM) is used to achieve higher
possible throughput than diversity. In this paper, we propose a Zero-
Forcing (ZF) detection using a combination of Ordered Successive
Interference Cancellation (OSIC) and Zero Forcing using
Interference Cancellation (ZF-IC). The proposed method used an
OSIC based on Signal to Noise Ratio (SNR) ordering to get the
estimation of last symbol, then the estimated last symbol is
considered to be an input to the ZF-IC. We analyze the Bit Error Rate
(BER) performance of the proposed MIMO system over Rayleigh
Fading Channel, using Binary Phase Shift Keying (BPSK)
modulation scheme. The results show better performance than the
previous methods.
Abstract: In order to achieve high data rate and increase the
spectral efficiency, multiple input multiple output (MIMO) system has
been proposed. However, multiple antennas are limited by size and
cost. Therefore, recently developed cooperative diversity scheme,
which profits the transmit diversity only with the existing hardware by
constituting a virtual antenna array, can be a solution. However, most
of the introduced cooperative techniques have a common fault of
decreased transmission rate because the destination should receive the
decodable compositions of symbols from the source and the relay. In
this paper, we propose a cooperative cyclic delay diversity (CDD)
scheme that use hierarchical modulation. This scheme is free from the
rate loss and allows seamless cooperative communication.
Abstract: In this paper, improved performance scheme for
joint transmission (JT) is proposed in downlink (DL) coordinated
multi-point (CoMP) in case of the constraint transmission power.
This scheme is that a serving transmission point (TP) requests the
JT to an inter-TP and it selects a precoding technique according
to the channel state information (CSI) from user equipment (UE).
The simulation results show that the bit error rate (BER) and the
throughput performances of the proposed scheme provide the high
spectral efficiency and the reliable data at the cell edge.
Abstract: The Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing
(OFDM) with high data rate, high spectral efficiency and its ability to
mitigate the effects of multipath makes them most suitable in wireless
application. Impulsive noise distorts the OFDM transmission and
therefore methods must be investigated to suppress this noise. In this
paper, a State Space Recursive Least Square (SSRLS) algorithm
based adaptive impulsive noise suppressor for OFDM
communication system is proposed. And a comparison with another
adaptive algorithm is conducted. The state space model-dependent
recursive parameters of proposed scheme enables to achieve steady
state mean squared error (MSE), low bit error rate (BER), and faster
convergence than that of some of existing algorithm.
Abstract: In recent years parasitic antenna play major role in
MIMO systems because of their gain and spectral efficiency. In this
paper, single RF chain MIMO transmitter is designed using
reconfigurable parasitic antenna. The Spatial Modulation (SM) is a
recently proposed scheme in MIMO scenario which activates only
one antenna at a time. The SM entirely avoids ICI and IAS, and only
requires a single RF chain at the transmitter. This would switch ON a
single transmit-antenna for data transmission while all the other
antennas are kept silent. The purpose of the parasitic elements is to
change the radiation pattern of the radio waves which is emitted from
the driven element and directing them in one direction and hence
introduces transmit diversity. Diode is connect between the patch and
ground by changing its state (ON and OFF) the parasitic element act
as reflector and director and also capable of steering azimuth and
elevation angle. This can be achieved by changing the input
impedance of each parasitic element through single RF chain. The
switching of diode would select the single parasitic antenna for
spatial modulation. This antenna is expected to achieve maximum
gain with desired efficiency.
Abstract: Future mobile networks following 5th generation will
be characterized by one thousand times higher gains in capacity;
connections for at least one hundred billion devices; user experience
capable of extremely low latency and response times. To be close to
the capacity requirements and higher reliability, advanced
technologies have been studied, such as multiple connectivity, small
cell enhancement, heterogeneous networking, and advanced
interference and mobility management. This paper is focused on the
multiple connectivity in heterogeneous cellular networks. We
investigate the performance of coverage and user throughput in several
deployment scenarios. Using the stochastic geometry approach, the
SINR distributions and the coverage probabilities are derived in case
of dual connection. Also, to compare the user throughput enhancement
among the deployment scenarios, we calculate the spectral efficiency
and discuss our results.
Abstract: Different order modulations combined with different
coding schemes, allow sending more bits per symbol, thus achieving
higher throughputs and better spectral efficiencies. However, it must
also be noted that when using a modulation technique such as 64-
QAM with less overhead bits, better signal-to-noise ratios (SNRs) are
needed to overcome any Inter symbol Interference (ISI) and maintain
a certain bit error ratio (BER). The use of adaptive modulation allows
wireless technologies to yielding higher throughputs while also
covering long distances. The aim of this paper is to implement an
Adaptive Modulation and Coding (AMC) features of the WiMAX
PHY in MATLAB and to analyze the performance of the system in
different channel conditions (AWGN, Rayleigh and Rician fading
channel) with channel estimation and blind equalization. Simulation
results have demonstrated that the increment in modulation order
causes to increment in throughput and BER values. These results
derived a trade-off among modulation order, FFT length, throughput,
BER value and spectral efficiency. The BER changes gradually for
AWGN channel and arbitrarily for Rayleigh and Rician fade
channels.

Various algorithms have been proposed by network researchers as the implementation of scheduling algorithm which represents an open issue in Long Term Evolution (LTE) standard. This paper makes an attempt to study and compare the performance of PF, MLWDF and EXP/PF scheduling algorithms. The evaluation is considered for a single cell with interference scenario for different flows such as Best effort, Video and VoIP in a pedestrian and vehicular environment using the LTE-Sim network simulator. The comparative study is conducted in terms of system throughput, fairness index, delay, packet loss ratio (PLR) and total cell spectral efficiency.
Abstract: Multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) systems are
widely in use to improve quality, reliability of wireless transmission
and increase the spectral efficiency. However in MIMO systems,
multiple copies of data are received after experiencing various
channel effects. The limitations on account of complexity due to
number of antennas in case of conventional decoding techniques have
been looked into. Accordingly we propose a modified sphere decoder
(MSD-1) algorithm with lower complexity and give rise to system
with high spectral efficiency. With the aim to increase signal
diversity we apply rotated quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM)
constellation in multi dimensional space. Finally, we propose a new
architecture involving space time trellis code (STTC) concatenated
with space time block code (STBC) using MSD-1 at the receiver for
improving system performance. The system gains have been verified
with channel state information (CSI) errors.
Abstract: This paper presents a comparison between Spectrum-
Sliced Wavelength Division Multiplexing (SS-WDM) and Spectrum
Amplitude Coding Optical Code Division Multiple Access (SAC
Optical CDMA) systems for different light sources. The performance
of the system is shown in the simulated results of the bit error rate
(BER) and the eye diagram of both systems. The comparison results
indicate that the Multiple Access Interference (MAI) effects have a
significant impact on SS-WDM over SAC Optical CDMA systems.
Finally, in terms of spectral efficiency at constant BER of 10-12, SSWDM
offers higher spectral efficiency than optical CDMA since no
bandwidth expansion in needed.
Abstract: This paper explores the implementation of adaptive
coding and modulation schemes for Multiple-Input Multiple-Output
Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (MIMO-OFDM) feedback
systems. Adaptive coding and modulation enables robust and
spectrally-efficient transmission over time-varying channels. The basic
premise is to estimate the channel at the receiver and feed this estimate
back to the transmitter, so that the transmission scheme can be
adapted relative to the channel characteristics. Two types of codebook
based channel feedback techniques are used in this work. The longterm
and short-term CSI at the transmitter is used for efficient channel
utilization. OFDM is a powerful technique employed in communication
systems suffering from frequency selectivity. Combined with
multiple antennas at the transmitter and receiver, OFDM proves to be
robust against delay spread. Moreover, it leads to significant data rates
with improved bit error performance over links having only a single
antenna at both the transmitter and receiver. The coded modulation
increases the effective transmit power relative to uncoded variablerate
variable-power MQAM performance for MIMO-OFDM feedback
system. Hence proposed arrangement becomes an attractive approach
to achieve enhanced spectral efficiency and improved error rate
performance for next generation high speed wireless communication
systems.
